Re: I'm back and wanting to upgrade

Upgraded trucks. Kudos to Tricklaser's Trick Trucks, they were my inspiration but A-not available, B-would not work with the other uprades, C-required purchase of all new bearings, hubs, tires hardware etc. So not going to work for me. I wanted to use my existing hardware, there was nothing wrong wi...

Re: I'm back and wanting to upgrade

Gene and all, All the upgrade stuff I asked about and the general answer I got back was "It cannot be done, don't do it" ...usually the best way to motivate me =) Well, it is done! -Duet2 Wifi -new molded arms with aluminum ball joints -machined trucks of own design, sort of an upgraded Tr...

Re: Looking for aviators

Hi Chrissi, I'm an x-avionics tech. I have watched you two build your plane over the years. I have E-racer plans/build manual and Berkut blueprints. My printer is an old R-max v2.0 Going to Sun N Fun? Need a like minded plane nut with preferably a R-MAX of some flavor to run demos during the show. ...

Looking for aviators

Are there any aviators in this group with a v3.2 R-MAX?

Since Trick Laser is not making these Trick Trucks available any more, were they ever open sourced, Github etc? Scan plot, dimensions etc?

Re: I'm back and wanting to upgrade

Not sure, I don't think so, it was shipped about a week before they released the V2 MAX. Unrelated, I'm wondering if it would be good to add a postscript to the g-code that when it is done printing that is retracts the filament about an inch or so to clear the hot end and make it easier to remove th...

Is there much merit to changing the extruder stepper to the 0.9 deg motor?

Re: I'm back and wanting to upgrade

You'd have to contact Ultimaker about the G02/03 moves, but if it doesn't, I wouldn't call that an issue. You can fuse for a couple of amps higher than the Duet is fused for, I suppose. You'll continue to use the same drive gears with the 0.9 steppers. Printing with ABS is basically 3d printing on ...

Re: I'm back and wanting to upgrade

When using the Duet board, you would not need sound dampening,,,,, nor would you want to anyways since it would effect the print. You would set the Duet drivers to run in Interpolated mode, which makes them quieter. Also, I just checked, the Duet 2 will run G02 and G03 codes,,,, it would be up to t...

Re: I'm back and wanting to upgrade

When switching to the 0.9deg steppers, do the original pulleys get used?
Also, since the motors would be coming out, other than sound damping, do the 3rd party stepper mount pads help anything else?

Re: I'm back and wanting to upgrade

I think I have the power supply issue taken care of; I forgot we have an Astron VS Linear power supply we used for anodizing, it is 2-15VDC, adjustable up to 57A cont. What should we fuse the printer at?

Re: I'm back and wanting to upgrade

Thanks Gene for the input, I'll have to look at the suggestions and I am sure I will have questions. I had settled on ABS back then because I thought it was going to be durable, heck they make LEGOS out of it. I imagine LEGOS will be crippling adults for centuries to come. At the time PLA was the on...

I'm back and wanting to upgrade

Hi all, I'm back. My V1 has been idle for much of this time but I've seen that there are changes out there. Part of the idleness is the steep learning curve vs results. I spent a good amount of time fussing with the printer for a year and due to being quite busy had to move on to other things. While...

Oh and one other word...
Every time some guy came in and said he had a Makerbot in his office I'd reach out, gently place my hand upon his and with greatest sincerity say "You have my condolences" ...it only seemed appropriate

Re: 3D Printer World Expo in Burbank, CA 1/31-2/1 2014

We'd also like to thank Gene for the parts he generously loaned us to show at the airshow, they made a difference when instead of Yodas or call boxes I could hold up a part and call it a prototype to verify form/fit/function or pattern for casting they'd get excited.
Thank you Gene!

Not the SeeMeCNC crew in the wild but thought this note I sent to John might be of interest... We just returned from the Sun N Fun airshow in Lakeland Florida. We took along the printer to demonstrate in the Engines Workshop which we co-chair. Gene had sent us a few parts he had made for the spitfir...

Great start. You're going to have way too much fun with it.
I came at this from the other way around, machines first then 3D printer. I have to keep reminding myself there is a simple way to make test parts... print them!

Based on what you will eventually spend on tooling they should give the machines away, like crack for machinists

Re: g0704 cnc conversion...

Do it a bit at a time; build the controller first. If you are going to use Gecko drives you'll need a beefy torroidal transformer. We had one made for around $200 that would rectify out to something like 80V/7A for NEMA 34 motors. Big filter cap and rectifier board can be bought off the shelf from o...

You have to do something with your time so...

I think the Warbirds guys would be going spastic if you had this going in a booth in the Warbirds area at Oshkosh. They'd be knocking themselves out trying to guess what it was where it goes.
