SOLIDWORKS FOR $20

Greetings all!

If you are ex-military, you can get a copy of SOLIDWORKS student for $20! It's available on their web site.
Just thought I'd share the info for those who didn't know. I sent them a copy of my DD-214 and the application, and they sent me a link to buy it.

Re: How to adapt a modular Corsair PSU to the Rostock Max V2

You should get a volt meter and verify your 12v and ground. They are really cheap - you don't need the top of the line model.

Re: Titled prints

UPDATE: I have been letting the printer sit, because I just didn't have anything left to check. I recently noticed that the top had become loose, and the top had dropped on the side of the suspect tower. I believe this is what was causing the tilt. I have run a few jobs at normal speed without the t...

Where in Florida are you? I'm in Orlando, and I might be interested if we can work out a way to meet up and avoid dis-assembly\shipping!

Re: Traitorous thoughts

I see nothing "traitorous" about what you are thinking. My first printer was a Max kit. I have since bought another printer - and it was not a Max kit. There are advantages to each. My purpose in getting any printers was to learn about them. ALL of them. I can't see being "brand loyal...

Re: Titled prints

The swapping of plugs, like you suggest, is an excellent way to determine if it is the motor or the board. I did that, and the problem stayed in the same axis.

Re: Titled prints

Just a complete WAG, as I don't remember what's gone before, so YMMV. Have you swapped locations of stepper motors at all? As the slew is always the same vector, is there any chance that you simply have an underperforming stepper motor at one axis? Yes I did. I covered my first round troubleshootin...

Re: Titled prints

UPDATE: This is getting ridiculous... I made a new effector platform and put it on the machine to make sure there was no slop. While I was at it, I rotated the Tricklaser arms so they weren't on the same tower as before. The thing still puts out tilted prints, and still in the same direction. Increa...

Re: Flexy-Hand 2. 3d printed prosthetic hand vapor finished

I'm suprised you had to expose it to acetone vapor for 4 hours - I have never needed more than 15 minutes. As far as the crack goes, I have had good luck using one of those "3D pens" to fill gaps in parts. I also do a bit of sanding before using the vapor polish. I wonder if a smooth surfa...

Re: trouble with drivers

I tried that. I finally had to use Windows restore to get back to a point before I started hooking up the Max. The problem was caused by my IOGEAR wireless 4 port USB hub. It's a great device - I can connect to my printer from any PC in the house. It has one quirk - you must connect the printer dire...

trouble with drivers

I hooked up my Max to my first PC, loaded the driver, and everything worked. I moved my Max to my den, hooked it up to my den PC, and not so good. The first thing is that it sees it as TWO cards, assigns TWO com ports, and throws an exclamation up on one (device won't start). When I try to connect w...

Re: How much is your printing time worth?

I have been doing jobs for the company I work for. Mostly optical mounts and R&D bread board stuff. My printer makes the same hourly rate as I do. Last week, while my Max was sick, they got a quote for a few simple parts. Turned out to be about twice as much as I charged. That was also with sup...

Re: Titled prints

If it were the steppers, or the drivers, it would have switched towers when I swapped the motors or the plugs on the card, no? Only two things remain that have not been swapped: the tower itself, and the tricklaser arms. I'm going to try swapping the arms around tonight. I actually have some extra 8...

Re: Titled prints

If your sure it's not mechanical, I.e. The xAxis feels like the other two when moved by hand, there are two things further to try. The first is opening the electronics door and running a fan over the I RAMBO board while printing. The second is while doing the first raise the current by say 20 on th...

Re: Titled prints

UPDATE: Still tilted.... I changed out the X belt, since the tilting seems to be away from the X tower. No change. I'm going to recap so I can get it straight in my head. I have a tilting in all my prints. The tilt is away from the X tower. It gets worse at higher speeds. I swapped the plug location...

I am on the current version. I was on the current version when I started using this card. I will probably install the card this weekend and try it without the display attached. I currently have another card in there, and it's working with the display, so I am not hopeful. I tried playing with the fi...

You are going to love that thing! Bringing something from your mind to reality is awesome. All acceleration and jerk settings are set to the "stock" settings...Nothing has been changed since the last normal operation. I guess I can swap the belts and cheapskates. I do a lot of trouble-shooting in my job - usually swapping is the easiest. When the problem moves, you know you've g...

Re: Titled prints

UPDATE: I didn't get much testing done last night, but I did increase the stepper current. I saw the towers were set at 175 and the extruder was set to 200. Since they are the same stepper, I figured it would be safe to increase the towers to 200. The test cube looks much better. It still has the sl...

I like that kind of test - non-invasive and easy to implement!

I'll try it tonight.
