Extruder skipping
I have an Orion which is about 5-6 years old. Updates include e3d hotend and ballcup arms and platform. I have it calibrated very well and have been very pleased with the performance. Recently the extruder started to skip. I updated to the EZR thinking it was a bad hobbed gear. No help. It seems to ...

Re: Astrosyn Dampers on Orion?
I am in the process of doing some upgrades on my Orion. It has been working great until a couple joints on the towers started to freeze up. So I decided to upgrade the arms and carriages and while I was at it add astrosyn dampers to keep the family happy. I have done some searching here in the forum...

Re: Printer head not reaching bed
So I think I figured it out. I am posting this explanation to help out someone else who may encounter this problem. It appeared as though the geometry got all messed up. Not sure why. Maybe my EEPROM settings got messed up somehow. The printer head would reach zero at the center of the plate but wou...

Re: Printer head not reaching bed
I think I solved it. In my Configuration file, #define EEPROM_MODE was 1. I set it to 0. As far as my research has taken me this allowed the changes I made to the offsets to work and not be overridden by the EEPROM settings. I am not expert on this by any means. But it seems to be working now. I sup...

Re: Printer head not reaching bed
I ran the radius.gco file. Z reaches zero at the center but lifts significantly at either end. Somehow the geometry got reset. I did upload the new version of Repetier. My Orion is from 3-2014 with the original cheapskate bearings so I corrected them in the configuration file according the the notes...

Printer head not reaching bed
I have not used the printer for several weeks. When I start printing the nozzle starts between 2-5 mm above the printer bed. I checked the zero and it is correct. I rezeroed it. I checked the code and it is correct. I checked the baud rate. It is 250000. If I manually send G1 Z0 it goes to zero. I u...

Re: Which E3D Mount?
I recently purchased the E3D hotend to use while I rebuild my original one. I went with the 713Maker one after reading about it in the forum. I have to say I am very impressed. They look very cool and are slick. More importantly I was very impressed by the way they do business. I had a few issues wi...

Peek fan replacement
The Peek fan on my Orion appears to be sick. I would like to get a replacement 25 mm fan. What is a good quality (and quiet) fan that has been used. Doing a search of the forum I found this: Top Motor DF122510BL-3G But it appears to use 3 wires not 2 like the Orion. I want to simply swap it out with...

Iron filament
Would printing with iron magnetic filament like this one for example
https://www.matterhackers.com/store/3d- ... c-iron-pla" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Cause any problems on my Orion printer such as wearing out the printer head?

Re: ezstruder skipping a lot
I had an issue once where end of the filament went under an adjacent loop because I didnt pay attention when i set it up. So as it pulled it would frequently get stuck and snap. But at first it worked pretty well probably because of the larger diameter of the curl in the filament. I didn't notice it...

How do I identify a layer in Gcode
This is probably an easy question for most of you. I use Slic3r and usually have pretty good luck with it and am used to it. I would like to know an easy way to identify what gcode corresponds to a specific layer in the print. For example if my model has 100 layers I would like to be able to insert ...

It is very cool. I printed it. For some reason my orion froze with 20 layers left to go (I printed at .4 thickness) but it still works.

Orion maintenance
I've been using the Orion for several months now without any significant issues. At first I had some U joint issues but some Teflon dry lube helped a lot. But overall extremely happy. Been having a blast with it. Is there any maintenance/adjustments you guys do on your printers? Anything I need to m...
