Re: Imperial AT-St Walker (edited)
I finished the print. it still needs to be sanded and painted but its in primer. It turned out to be 23" tall. So far my favorite kit.
my feet are size 13, for reference.

I have printed the Head (vary large), under-carrage, and both legs with 10-20% infill and I have used 3/4 of a 2kg roll. Its gleaming white PLA from http://makergeeks.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Imperial AT-St Walker (edited)
Whats the tallest thing you've built?
Last night I tried to max out my z height without touching the home switches. because the work-piece could not be centered on the build plate, I chickened out with a total height of 349.17mm or 13.75 inches.

Re: Hotend Temp off by several degrees
thanks for all the info guys. The hole was actually a little oversized for the heater so I inserted the heater and used a vice to carefully squeeze the outer wall to hold the heater in place. The otter hole remains empty. I wrapped the whole assembly in high temp tape to insulate and hold everything...

Time for the bonus geek round. For fifty points....what am I making? Must answer in the form of a question. Re: Cura sliced hannya mask
Thank you very much, I was playing with the settings trying to see how cura responded. It's printed with a .1 layer height, 80% extruder multiplier, 30mm/s speed and no fill or support at all. The pictures above are of the mask still printing. It took 5.5 hours to print. It turned out really well fo...

Cura sliced hannya mask
Been playing with cura. I like the results so far. This is a 1 layer thick hollow print in PLA. I have the spiral outer layer function turned on. It's also my first print since installing a new 40 watt cartridge heater and I love it. I am worried about a run away hot end situation due to its power b...

Re: Hotend Temp off by several degrees
Well I installed my 12v 40 watt cartridge heater and the difference is amazing. Printing nylon at 235c the heater is only running at around half power. This is a good and bad thing. I love the power and speed of warmup but I am worried that a eventual thermistor fail will see me with a fire on my ha...

Re: Hotend Temp off by several degrees
i have been researching to try and learn how to adjust the PID values to try and get a better result. According to Repetier host graph, its applying full power to the hot end but it just can't keep up while printing, leaving me to believe that i have a bad resistor.

Re: Hotend Temp off by several degrees
The problem is that when I print fast and need heat, the hot end can't keep up even though it's being supplied with 100% power according to the repetier host graph. It's like 20c low at times.

Re: Hotend Temp off by several degrees
after careful observation of the temps and how much power was being applied to the hot end i have decided that i have a bad resistor. One was slightly cracked after i pulled it out and re-sealed it. I will install a 40w heater next week and that should resolve the problem.

Re: Hotend Temp off by several degrees
My current PID settings are as follows:
Kp 14.89
Ki 1.06
Kd 50.63
Does this sound close to what other people are getting after calibration?

Re: Hotend Temp off by several degrees
Well to clarify, when I first set up the PID last month I calibrated it totally wrong. And the values I I put were way off. Since then I have re calibrated but I was concerned that the original values I entered may have skewed the results so I enter zero in the EPROM and then ran the recalibration. ...

Re: Hotend Temp off by several degrees
Ok here is another symptom of the problem. When I run the PID calibration the hot end reaches full temp quickly and holds it well. I zeroed out my PID, ran the recalibration, and tried to print at 220. The hot end temp rises toward the set point then at 210 degrees you see the PID start cutting powe...
