Re: A full set of Bagpipes
I'll be sure to record that one, and a few other well known tunes while I'm putting them through their paces

Re: IKEA enclosure for Rostock MAX V2
That, and I ran round all of the wood joints with decorator's caulk and/or silicone (I emptied a can of one, and started on the other after that). Even small gaps I think will make a difference to the heat retention.

Re: IKEA enclosure for Rostock MAX V2
Have you tried a bit of draught strip around the door? That's all I've got, with a couple of brass gate hooks set to hold the door tight closed to the strip (I'm going to need to move these to get them tight again, as they're starting to feel a bit soft). Currently, the chamber's getting up to 45 to ...

Re: A full set of Bagpipes
Here's a video of the printed pipes in action :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQg9STUSwkg Just goes to show what these printers are capable of! Post production is important for good tone - basically, the internal bores need polished to give a good quality sound. I cleaned them out with drills ...

Re: Bump bump bump, then... layer shift
So... it seems the failure issue was a bug with Cura. I found another thread that deals with something similar, here ; http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=6417 I've just reduced the z lift to cure a stringing problem (successfully), so rather than restore that setting, I tried simply ...

Re: Bump bump bump, then... layer shift
Will do. I've been working the printer pretty hard, though - night and day for a week, and some quite long shifts leading up to that. Wouldn't be surprised if I need some new bits at some point soon. Thanks for the tip about the stepper motors - it's probably the flat spot "notch" then, since it ...

Re: Bump bump bump, then... layer shift
It's the cheapskate bearings. Seems all six of the fixed left-side bearings have a flat in the same place. I've rotated them so that the flats aren't lined up anymore. The movement is still a bit bumpy, but no obvious 'notches'. Thanks for your help - sorry to be posting problems with such obvious ...

Here's a link to a pic on my Twitter feed ;

I'll be assembling them as soon as I get a layer shift issue fixed, and print the last four pieces!

Bump bump bump, then... layer shift
Well, it didn't take me long to find another puzzle for the forum. I've got plenty of data on this one, and one or two theories. I've tried searches, but (perhaps due to my inexperience), can't come up with a search term to find a thread that covers a similar problem. So, here it is ; Since I fixed ...

Re: Tall prints going banana
Well, it took me a while. Funnily enough, I should have checked the hot end first, having fairly recently had it apart to change the resistors. It was a case of "can't be that, already checked that", but it seems that nut really needs to be on tight. It does get wobbled around a lot. The test that ...

Re: Build chamber v2
Yes, I had that! I'm going to print a hood to direct the flow downwards to the floor of the chamber, and see if that helps. For now, I'm finding that the recycling seems to act passively - as I said above, I've got a notion about how this might be working, although no idea if I'm right about that ...

Re: Tall prints going banana - problem solved!
Got it! If you start to see a curve appearing, particularly in tall, slim prints, that causes the model to bend a little towards the left from probably about 90mm, resolving back towards the centre at about 140mm, then chances are that your hot end mounting nut has worked itself a little loose ...

Re: Tall prints going banana
The cheapskate wheels too - I'll try some tall tower prints at low layer height, and see if the curve repeats.

Re: Tall prints going banana
>> "PLA, ABS, or something else? Is the deflection along the same vector as your layer fan?" You know, I think it is. I'm printing ABS. I've got various coloured ABS prints, all show the same curve if I look carefully. The layer fan is a possibility - but would that be consistent with it only ...

Re: Tall prints going banana
It certainly is! That's pretty much all I print - working woodwind instruments. I'm drawing designs for whistles and bagpipes. In fact, I'm about to start making some of them for sale, after prototyping them on the Orion. Poor printer. So it's looking likely that it's going to need taken to pieces ...
