Re: Artemis Field Service Bulletin Ground Kit Aug 23rd 2018
I just finished installing the grounding kit. I had some issues getting screw holes in the aluminum grounding blocks to line up with holes on the enclosure. The corners of the blocks hit the enclosure before the holes come into alignment, so I had to file down the outer corners of the blocks. I thou...

LED lights found for use on Artemis
I just got my Artemis last week, and I wanted to light it up. I found some 23-inch LED strip lights that seem to work well. They are made for automotive use, and are enclosed in flexy silicone tubing with self-adhesive foam tape included. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07CGNH9KP/ref=oh_aui_detai...

Re: Interesting symptom of an over-tightened carriage
Was there a flat spot on one of the wheels? I wonder if you'd feel a "tick" if you ran the carriage up and down by hand, or if the line in your print would have happened again higher up on the print? (one wheel circumference higher) I don't know about "then" but I can't detect a...

Interesting symptom of an over-tightened carriage
I thought people might find this interesting. My Orion has the old-style wood cheapskate carriages. I recently adjusted the wheel cams, and noticed a faint parabolic pattern artifact on cylindrical objects. It was only noticeable when using an overhead light source. The parabola seemed to either pea...

Re: Strategies for Resolving Print Artifacts
I had a z-banding issue recently with my Orion. It was really noticeable on white material when printing a cylinder. It was worse on the side opposite one particular tower. It turned out that tower's cheapskate had too much play. Using the cams to tighten the roller wheels eliminated the problem. I ...

Re: Tough Ink by M3D
I am getting the best results with the Tough Ink at 205C and 15mm/s. I tried 25mm/s, but the filament got looped inside the stock Orion extruder and stopped feeding.
Even hollow objects with a single perimeter wall are really tear-resistant, with great layer adhesion.

Re: Tough Ink by M3D
I bought some SemiFlex also, and it seems to have about the same flexibility as the Tough Ink, which explains why the Tough Ink seems to print OK in the Orion.

Re: Tough Ink by M3D
I bought a small spool of this and tried it on my Orion today. I am getting pretty good results printing at 215C and 15mm/s. It is very flexy and strong. I was suprised the stock extruder/Bowden setup on the Orion could handle it. Thus far, I have only done continuous spiral mode prints with no trav...

Re: Toy Rocket Plane
I am honored that the 3DXTech guys used my Rocket Plane to show off their filament at the Midwest RepRap Festival. I am guessing this is one of their carbon fiber filaments.

Re: hot end problems
I just had a resistor burn out on my Orion after about 6.5 hours print time, so I replaced both resistors with a single 40w cartridge heater here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221501592348" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Warning - I got quite a bit of smoke from the cartridge whe...

Can anyone recommend a true red PLA or ABS
I bought some Hatchbox red PLA, which prints beautifully, but it comes out a bit on the orangey side. If you have experience with a good quality, true-RED pla or abs, please let me know.

Lenn did a really nice larger print of it at 400mm length on his Rostock:

Re: Silver colored PLA
Finally! A silver that is ... well ... silver and not grey. From the photo here, the Voltivo filament looks even better, though I haven't tried it myself and it is $47 per spool versus $26 for the Solutech; http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:536259" onclick="window.open(this.href);return fa...

Re: Silver colored PLA
Yes ! There is very little stringing with this stuff as well. Much better than the blue stuff that comes with the Orion. Update: I am getting excellent results using 20mm print speed for high quality, and 50mm/s retract speed with 7mm retract length. There is still a bit of oozing on long travels, s...

Silver colored PLA
I tried some Solutech Silver PLA and I really like it so far. It needs a head temp of 225, maybe because of the additives. Does anyone know how they color this stuff? I am assuming aluminum powder. I wrote to them to ask this but they have not responded yet. The photo shows a 2.75" rocket plane...

For those who don't want to commit to installing an LED ring on their printer, I have found this lamp to work really well for illuminating the print bed: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EUSPBK2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; And it serves double-duty as an emergency/pow...

I just got an Orion about 2 weeks ago and I have been having a blast with it. My first project was something I needed for cleaning tiny circuit boards that I assemble for my business:
