Cura starts extremely slow
So I've been using Repeteir host and slic3r for a long time... and today slic3r was just refusing to create supports on a particular item I am printing, so I decided to give cura a try. When I start a print sliced with cura for some reason the printer takes an extremely long time to reach the bed Is...

Re: bot's bot build
That's actually what I'm going to recommend be done. I don't think the vias are exposed any longer so the reason to have them covered is no longer relevant. g. So should I take off that tape in the center and re-calibrate my printer? I too left it on because the instructions never said to take it o...

Re: bot's bot build
Nice! I guess I was slightly luckier with my bad part than yours, cause if I had bad bearings I wouldn't have had any extras :P And those skates were easily the worst part of the build.... Those damn plastic rings are little spawns of satan I swear. I literally had to stand on one of them to get it ...

Re: bot's bot build
Well the joke was to leave the power supply as-is and invert the WHOLE machine, thus balancing the whole printer upside down on the spool holder. :) The power supply isn't going to suffer extreme heat in the default orientation. The heated bed is air-gapped from the main structure and the melamine ...

Re: bot's bot build
Why even have it on the machine... put it on the other side of the room and lets hook it up to a giant tesla coil. This can't go wrong.bot wrote:Haha! On the spool holder? Ridiculous. I wanna find a way to mount it on the hot end effector.

Re: bot's bot build
That sucks, I didn't think of that lol. You'd have to find a way to flip the z stepper to the other side or mod the power supply so the cable comes out somewhere else heh... both ideas are kinda crazy lolbot wrote:So I can't do the PSU flipped. The power cable would come out RIGHT where the Z stepper is...

Re: bot's bot build
I have two nice, barely used 120mm with nice spiral flex cord covers just like the hot end... I was contemplating slapping them on the outside with custom enclosure eventually. you're right they are the perfect size to not fit INSIDE! haha.. I was really hoping they would fit, but figured when Russ...

Clearly I'm into over-engineering and fiddling! haha. Aurora, I'm glad you agree. I also build all my own PCs! You and I have some sweet hobbies! hah :) Teoman, I'm not sure the vibration of the fans would ever come into play. These are pretty lightweight fans and I'm mounting them all with cable t...

Re: bot's bot build
I guess it wasn't clear in my photos, but I'm adding two fans that exhaust out the back panels to replace the loss of airflow. As I sai din my previous post, I suspect the orientation of the psu is calling the premature failure people are having. The ambient operating temperature the unit is rated ...

I think that may be even better than what I named my printer for haha So yeah I just had to know what you named your printer, so I read your build thread. It's a fun read, and I like your printer's name too! When a name has an interesting back story it's more fun that way. :) Thanks. Yeah, I don't ...

Dampaaaaaaaaaaaz!! Thanks, everyone. Gene, I look forward to seeing the v2 manual! And as for the laser cut pieces, it totally did not take me 3-4 OCD filled hours to remove the pieces. Totally didn't. :) I have the hot end standing up in a vice with paper towel to protect the aluminum. I would nev...

Windows 8 bites ass. Even installing Classic Shell doesn't make the pain any less. g. Windows 10 has been released to the Microsoft Beta testers, and from what I have heard it is supposed to be more Corporate friendly. We shall see! That's my biggest problem with 8... its just not a good fit for a ...

Re: Introducing: Albertus Magnus
So has anyone figured out the significance of the name "Albertus Magnus"? All my computer names are after philosophers, but I found this guy particularly fitting. :D According to Wikipedia, he's basically the guy we have to thank for Aristotelian logic having made it to this century. Am I...

Re: My first decent print: A keck clamp
Breaking Bad is worth binge-watching. It's on Neflix streaming if you've got that, or The Pirate Bay if you don't. :D Nice looking clamp though. One thing to keep in mind - the more you use the printer, the better you'll get at using it. 3D printers of this type are a lot like Electric Guitars. You...

I'm not sure I get the reference, unless you're referring to Fringe, which if you are... damn that's an obscure reference, and an awesome reference at the same time. (It's up there as one of my favorite series)geneb wrote:Say hi to Walter for me!

Super quick LED mod for Rostock
So I wanted to add LEDs so I could see the prints better since all the lighting I have is high hats... So I get a big shadow on the bed. And I wanted to see what the quickest laziest way to go about it was... I literally just took 3 3mm LEDs and soldered the leads together in the shape of a triangle...

My first decent print: A keck clamp
So this was the first thing I printed that not only came out awesome, but is functional too. For those who might not know, a keck clamp is used for securing glass on glass joints on glassware. I'm very surprised that the auto-generated support material was perfect and came off fairly easily with the...

Looks like a stargate wheel? Yeah its a stargate... Better get it right. Who knows where you would have ended up! For layer height, my buddy Phil has gone down to .07 mm layers (70 microns, right?). The Z positioning accuracy is the same as the XY accuracy, it takes all 3 motors to move in a straig...
