Re: Success, then frustration

A clogged nozzle unblocks quickly and effortlessly with a bit of heat applied from a small blow-torch :-) Most of the plastic causing the blockage just runs out and anything left turns to ash and can be washed out with acetone or IPA. The E3D is a great hot end too. The stock hot end also copes just ...

Re: E3DV6 Praise

The jam was all my fault. The praise was that E3D sent me a replacement so quickly. Maybe I should read my posts more carefully - any negatives are all my fault and due to general abuse of my printer.

E3DV6 Praise

I tried some printing in a flexible filament which didn't really work too well for a number of reasons. A day later I was printing a large 29+ hour print in ABS which was required in a hurry. The head jammed. I removed the jam, printed again in PLA and it jammed too. I took the E3DV6 head apart ...

Re: Not getting 100% infill from MatterControl

Have you tried setting the top and bottom layer count to a large number? Matter control prints infill, even when set to 100% and so will leave little holes. You can see this in the layer view in matter control.

There is a fantastic company called Windows Technical Helpdesk. Really good value for money, they can ...

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments

I had quite a lot of trouble trying to get ABS to stick to PEI. That was eventually solved with some help from mhackney to get the first layer right and also by increasing the bed temperature to 105C. Now that is way hotter than mhackney recommends, but it turns out that it is only 88C when measured ...

Re: First Layer Frustrations

One of the best tips I got when I went through a period of not getting ABS to stick well without the Elmers magic was that with a 0.4mm nozzle on the E3Dv6, a layer height of 0.2 is about right. A first layer of more than 0.2 is too much. The zero height is set to the thickness of 80gm copier paper.

Reduce the motor current setting for the extruder in configuration.h to around 130.

Re: 10" tall vase

I am in the UK - $135 for the arms and trucks. Approx $40 for postage to UK. Approx $100 for the open builds stuff parts from the UK inc. postage.

Oh, and I must not forget the free clamps you designed and published on Repables :-) That was the cheap bit.

Re: small hairy things

I'm not convinced it's an issue with Matter Control. Could well be the repetier firmware. I've had this reset a few (3-4) times but I'm not sure I was running Matter Control at all for one of them when I had a power cut mid print - once power restored, eeprom settings were reset. I think I was ...

Re: New Forum member

1.6.0 (on Windows at least) compiled repetier 0.91 without any issues after the prog_char type was changed to char, so you should be fine with the latest arduino IDE if you can make that small code change. It is only in 5 or 6 places in ui.cpp - 30 seconds to fix. Or you can grab the latest repetier ...

Re: New Forum member

Seems to work fine. I used the 0.91 master codeline that I downloaded a couple of weeks ago, but 1.6.0 of the arduino IDE built it and it seems to run fine. No obvious LCD issues so far (not extensively tested though).

Re: PLA Keeps jamming around the extruder. [RostockV2]

If you have a Kysan stepper on the extruder, what have you set the current to be in the configuration.h file? I have mine set to 130 at the moment. 110 also worked for me. The motor is quite cool at 110, slightly warmer at 130 but too hot at 160.

Re: Ran into snag during build (Rostock Max V2).

If this is the stock power supply, then it is a single rail for 12V. Just pick any 12V cable - won't matter which connecter it goes to. E.g. one of the SATA 12V wires would do fine.

Have you tried reducing the retract to something like 2mm rather than the default of 6.5mm? And reduce the retract speed to about 20-30mm/s?

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments

Just a quick update. While I had PLA sticking very well, ABS was still not cooperating. Yesterday I tried a 100mm x 40mm rectangle in ABS but I increased the print bed to 115C (had to wrap it in a blanket to get it that high). The ABS stuck very well and didn't even release when the print was ...

Re: EEPROM Reset (Again!)

Had another EEPROM reset this evening - but that was caused by a power cut. It looks like the repetier firmware is a bit sensitve to things like power cuts and resets the eeprom for no good reason. Oh, this was during a print.

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments

Teoman, I'll try that. I had gone up to about 90C, but will try higher temperatures. I used 60C for PLA and 85 for ABS, but happy to try higher. I doubt my bed will reach 115C, but I know it goes to 105C (eventually).

Ok, printed the first dozen or two layers after changing first layer height to 0.2. Can't get the print off the print bed! How the hell did that happen? Will give that a go. Just to be clear, the first layer height is set to 0.25 with a normal layer height of 0.2. Will set the first layer to 0.2 and leave the other layers at 0.2 as well. I have the first layer width set to 0.3.
