Re: DIY Mill Turn Center

Both iterations really need to use conical bearings. The radial bearing are not going to sustain side and axial loads without premature failure and will be difficult to preload correctly. Cup and cone sets can be had inexpensively and will still fit nicely with your shrink fit approach. The next bes...

Re: Swiss Clips - Potential improvement for heated bed clips

My Mendel started life as a RepRapPro kit and uses these. Seeing this thread, I pulled one off and tried to clip it on the Rostock just for grins. With the stock bed installation it hits the snowflake before it gets far enough inboard to grip the edge. It's also really fiddly with the printer base ...

Swiss Clips - Potential improvement for heated bed clips

I've seen these start to show up within the RepRap community. They are a lower profile heated bed clip than the binder clips we typically use. Cost is a bit higher unless purchased wholesale in larger quantities, but it would be better for printing out to the edge and clearing the effector with low ...

Re: web based Delta printer least-squares calibration calcul

SeeMeCNC is pretty tied to Ultimachine, so I don't see a major controller change happening any time soon. I do think that the accelerometer-based probe is going to make life a lot easier though. It wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility to see Ultimachine build a DUE based board though. g. I ...

Re: Greetings from Greensboro, NC

You don't need the LCD to get started... Just use the USB connection and print from a PC to get your feet wet. You have an older Rambo board with 1/8th stepping. The newer manual will refer to everything as 1/16 stepping. Keep that in mind when you are are adjusting the firmware and steps / millimet...

Pretty risky looking to me. Probably better of as an SLS part, and even then it could be troublesome.

I think you were smart to decline.

Re: Layer Shifting

You only need 6 for 1 rostock. I'm building a metal max and needed 2 sets! No wear on pulleys. 6M for my first Max Metal and the other 6 for the 2nd Max Metal... twins! Also, found these.... 20 tooth pulleys with 5mm bearings http://www.robotdigg.com/product/637/2GT+Idler+Pulley+w/+Bearings Good to...

Re: Layer Shifting

Thanks for the pointer to tridprinting. 12M of belt adds up and their price looks reasonable. Anyone ever check their pulleys for wear? I was reading another post in a forum I've since forgotten, but the discussion was how the GT2 belt profile is proprietary to Gates, but there are knock-offs that a...

Re: Layer Shifting

Any recommendations for a confirmed source of quality belts? I'm seeing some strange artifacts on my original v1 belts and need more for the next build. It may be best to order enough for both machines and be done with it... I could just order from SeeMeCNC, but didn't know if others had found a sou...

Re: Simplify3D setting the Bed Height

In the G-Code tab of your process you can change the z-axis offset of the Global G-Code Offsets section. Just be aware that if you go negative by more than the first layer thickness, the first layer will disappear under the virtual bed... learned that one the embarrassing way. It still prints, but y...

sometimes its just about repetition.... once you set up a toggle clamp clap press, it may take a couple of times to hit dimension. But once you do it will be repeatable... Thats what I'm trying to say, simple, repeatable... I also feel overmolding would be simple and accurate, Maybe thats just me b...

Re: Modded Rostock MAX v2 "Orangesicle"

If you plan on doing much in the way of ABS, or large parts, or exotic higher temperature filaments, I suggest a chamber as well. Heated by preference. I find the Raymond style enclosure will accomodate tools in the top brackets (It was intended for the V1, and so needed cable routing paths, which ...

Re: Trick Laser MAX METAL Build

Does anyone have a 3D-printed part that makes the belts truly vertical if you have Trick Trucks? There is a part for if you're using the SeeMe carriage yoke, but that doesn't do anything if you have the full metal Trick Laser platform & carriage set. https://github.com/ccavanaugh/Max-Metal/blob...

Re: Another E3Dv6 joins the ranks!

I've had a couple of JST connectors fail where the pins pop out. This is with premade pigtails and self made crimps.

I ordered some of the 2 pin connectors for the next build. They seem fairly robust without being too bulky.

Re: Trick Laser MAX METAL Build

I'm not certain anything smaller than a 20 tooth will fit without the belts rubbing inside the extrusion. It's a close fit. Yes it was indeed a very close fit, have got to get the gear centered just right. I ran the belt by hand and could not feel any rubbing, so I guess 16T is probably the smalles...

626Pilot, An effort to port the Duet motion planner may fix/uncover the bug with Smoothie firmware not being able to handle the high resolution files that Simplify3D sometimes creates. Re: New idea for multiple flying extruders: Double-Decker De

The 4th tower idea might have a different take - what if the tower is movable, mounted from the top at the center? The extruders could all be mounted on it - could probably get 3 at least around it. It might have to elevate them above the top most point of the carriages but that could be easily arr...

Re: New idea for multiple flying extruders: Double-Decker De

Initially that sounded like a really good idea, but then I realized that there's nowhere you could mount the 4th tower that wouldn't interfere with the delta arms. No matter where you put the tower along the circumference, there will be some place the effector can no longer go. It would have to be ...

Re: New idea for multiple flying extruders: Double-Decker De

How about a 4th asymmetrical tower with the same belt and carriage setup with the extruder directly coupled to it? Z height would be calculated as a function of print z height plus a bit of extra wiggle room. It was take a little bit of firmware modification, but the carriage could easily handle the...

Re: Layer Shifting

Interesting, may try rerouting the wiring to this limit. It is the longest and does pass the Power Supply, 24VDC to 12VDC Buck/Boost and the SSR. gary I once built a RMAX and happened to run the extruder motor wires inside the column with the endstop wires. That machine had weird random layer shift...
