Re: Is anyone making screws?
JFettig, Typically I dont use fans with ABS as per most people's advice. But I have seen several people mention using fans and when I saw his print with the screw I was curious what temps he used with the fans to see if I could reproduce. Just a curiousity thing really. Several people here claim to ...

Re: Is anyone making screws?
That is very nice! What temp did you use for the ABS when using the layer cooling fans? I have been testing various temps, speeds and fan settings for ABS and have not had good results (e.g. getting good adhesion or print quality) when I turn the fans on.
Thanks

Re: Why all the rage for PLA?
Just a quick note to say that my PLA printing has improved - thanks to all the help from mhackney. However, I am still not a big PLA fan but I do see the benefit based upon some of the posts above. I "grew up" on ABS and guess I am still biased towards it. I do not dislike the PLA as much ...

Re: Extruder melting PLA... with reduced power
I thought I had a similar problem. I found my extruder motor very hot and so on. Even put a cooling fan on it. Did NOT help - some prints finished but long prints still failed. With the help of mhackney, come to find that I was retracting filament too far on retraction settings. If you do a search, ...

Re: A Strategy for Successful (and Great) Prints
Michael, Just read through your post and kind of discovered some of this on my own last night after I submitted the post. I have a few prints that seem to need fans and I did a step by step approach similar to the PLA stringing and jamming stuff. Found the perfect settings (I think) and am trying no...

Re: A Strategy for Successful (and Great) Prints
Quick question about layer cooling fans. So I have been following Michael's suggestions and finally got most of if not all the PLA issues I was having up to this point sorted out. Last of the stringing has been eliminated. So onto the next set of tests and prints. I have something that gets wider ea...

Re: A Strategy for Successful (and Great) Prints
Just a quick thanks too! I am getting closer to getting the PLA dialed in. Last night I had some of my best results thanks to all your suggestions mhackney! Still have a few random strings (extremely tiny and just a few) so I am getting close.
Keep up the great work and thanks again!

Re: Canola Convert
Ok so I just tried mhackney's retract settings: 20mm/s and 1.5 mm retract with 192C temp on a 60C hot bed. I am getting little tiny strings all over the place now. Granted I didnt get a jam but I have also been using the oil trick which seemed to eliminate all my jams prior to trying these settings....

Re: Why all the rage for PLA?
Guys, So I have a status update since my original post. I took earthbounds comments about having no issues and spent several hours trying to track down the issue. It was definitely an EZstruder problem but not the heat as I originally thought. I think that was a symptom of what was really going on. ...

Re: Why all the rage for PLA?
Geneb, Which brand of PLA are you using? I am using the SeeMeCNC brand. This thread shows what one of the jams looked like (and I am using the slow speed settings to get really clean prints - i don't need the speed). http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=7088&p=56496#p56496 (look at...

Re: EZstruder stepper temps and PLA
Thanks for the link. I will definitely consider all options at this point. I have to do something so my first thought was a fan shroud. Perhaps moving it will help too - definitely make it easier to cool.
Thanks again.

Re: Why all the rage for PLA?
Thanks - glad I am not alone here.
Is taulman the only nylon out there? I take it that it is worth the extra money then? Which is better: taulman 618 or taulman 645? Does it have the shrinkage/warping issues of ABS?

Why all the rage for PLA?
Guys, First off let me say thanks to everyone in the forum for all the useful info. Over christmas break I built a V2 with my kids and have been having a blast with it - until yesterday. I started with ABS and got everything calibrated (again the forums really helped here) and setup. Printed out ove...

EZstruder stepper temps and PLA
Guys, So I built my V2 over Christmas break with the kids. Went through 300 meters of ABS without a problem printing tons of things. I just started trying to use PLA and have had a whole host of issues - mostly with temps and jamming. My biggest problem with PLA is jams. Seems like many of my proble...

Upgrading from a Cupcake CNC
Hello All, So I have had an MK4 cupcake cnc (actually I use it but my employer bought it) since the early days and have finally decided to get a good machine and just ordered my OWN Rostock Max V2. Looking forward to building and getting my children involved. They have recently gotten excited about ...
