Re: Red Sand's Max V2 Build Thread

More questions: #1 --> When tightening the six screws which hold the Onyx in place, would a little bit of thread lock be desired? #2 --> At the top of page 85 "Pull enough of the 18ga wire so that the end coming out of the “top” comes within about 6” of the “bottom” of the tower. This will give...

Re: Red Sand's Max V2 Build Thread

I'm on page 53, Installing the Drive Gears on the Stepper Motors Question #1 --> Is red thread lock okay or do I have to go to Home Depot and buy some blue? Question #2 --> My vice-grips clamping of the spade lugs was not successful so I soldered the wires to the spade lugs - could this possibly cau...

Re: Red Sand's Max V2 Build Thread

On page 43, would it be clearer to indicate . . . . The feet are installed on the bottom of the Base Bottom Plate. The design of the Base Bottom Plate causes it to have asymmetric features – this means that if you were to bisect the plate down the center, the left & right “halves” wouldn't be a ...

I hope my suggestion wasn't negative because I write instructions for a living - lots of instructional documents, so I can realize this build manual is phenomenal!

Re: Red Sand's Max V2 Build Thread

I believe I found a boo-boo in the instructions: Page 30 reads "Before we start on this, I'd like tighten the nozzle that's installed in the hot end. Grip the hot end by the heater block as shown below and gently tighten the nozzle with a 5/16” wrench." I am fairly certain that should be a...

Re: Red Sand's Max V2 Build Thread

Just ran into "Problem #001" . . . wifey made me move it out of the dining room - she didn't like the smell of the laser-cut melamine panels . . . me, on the other hand, I love the smell - clearly better than any cologne I've ever sniffed . . . So, I build it in the garage now And . . . so...

Red Sand's Max V2 Build Thread

My machine will arrive today I'm getting my build area ready, organizing tools but I have a question: would this be a good choice for the Kapton tape? http://www.amazon.com/Gold-Kapton-Tape-Polyimide-100ft/dp/B00A9HAWSO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1425038166&sr=8-3&keywords=1%2F2%22+kapton+ta...

Where To Put It?

Totally new here - three questions: #1 Location: I am considering putting the V2 in the garage but I'm not sure this is ideal because of the larger amount of dust out there and the range in temperature changes. I have a "bonus room" that's next to my bedroom but is the V2 going to be noisy...

I'm very excited to begin the build - the V2 will be delivered BEFORE spring break begins! Woo hoo! I'll post my questions in the appropriate areas I guess I'll also post a "build thread" (not in the New Member introduction) to document my process (because I enjoy that sort of thing - cert...

Re: I'm In

One question: should I go ahead and order a "removal tool" (?) or can I get something similar at Home Depot that might work as well? I ordered the printer yesterday - I wonder if I ordered a removal tool today if they could send it with my printer and 2 pounds of ABS filament or if I'd hav...

Re: Rostock MAX purchase poll

If you chose other, please explain. I can't put one characteristic above any other - my decision was based on many things. Some of this might sound a little stupid but here goes, in no specific order of priority: the people who make the machine - seem to be an impressive, well qualified group the i...

I'm In

Hello Everyone A couple years ago I purchased a 3D printer kit and I was not impressed. There were several quality issues - suffice to say, that project was not successful so I sold it. Today I purchased a Rostock MAX™ v2 and I can't wait to get started building it and of course, making parts. Backg...
