Re: E3D Hotend, Light ring, and Makerhive Quick Change board
Another vote for written instructions. Videos are great to see how things are put together, but when I'm putting something together myself it's much easier if I can jump around and reread sections at my own pace. This is best for finding and referring to something later also.

Re: new carriages and ball arms
Since I built my printer, several things have changed that affect geometry and tuning. Among them are: * number of teeth on the belt drive sprockets. * number of microsteps (?) (my RAMBo is v1.0). * radius and arm length (I have the latest carriages, arms, and effector). * I want my control knob to ...

Re: new carriages and ball arms
With the new carriages, the end stop screws are very short (3/8") with very little leeway for adjustment. I don't see how these instructions are feasible.

new carriages and ball arms
I installed new carriages and ball arms from seemecnc on my RMax v1, and I know I need to change the arm length to 290.8, but I think I also need to change the delta radius. When I move the effector horizontally, it gets lower as it moves further from the center of the build plate. Anyone know what ...

Looking forward to getting my mount in a few days. If you haven't run across it yet, http://www.vacuumsealerbags.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is a good source for less expensive bags.

Re: Heavy-duty push-fit connectors?
I wonder if we could somehow take a PTFE washer with an ID matching the tubing OD, and glue or weld the washer near the end of the tubing. Then we could make a fitting that just clamps the tubing end in place, at least until the weld fails.

Is the RotoMAAK open source? I want to make one that's round instead of square so it'll look like the machine in Contact.

I thought about that also, but I don't think two cups could be small enough for enough freedom of movement while being large enough to stay seated.

Re: Xnaron Printable Magnetic u-joint option for Rostock Max
Yeah, if someone was selling some 1/2" magnetic steel balls with 8-32 threaded holes , I'd certainly be interested in buying. I've already blown away more time and money than I wanted to trying to do this myself.

Re: Xnaron Printable Magnetic u-joint option for Rostock Max
I tried pressing some 8-32 studs into #25 holes drilled in ball bearings, but I wasn't really happy with how it sheared the threads off the studs. I ended up with a slightly bent stud and some sharp curly bits sticking out.

Re: Mhackney's Rostock Max
Michael, I tried again this weekend with a #27 bit. Got a hole drilled, then succeeded only in dulling the taper tap you suggested. Oh well. I decided to abandon the idea of tapping the holes, and drilled 12 balls with a #25 bit. Seems to be just about the right size to let me press-fit some 8-32 st...

Re: Mhackney's Rostock Max
Interesting. I just got around to measuring, and it seems my #25 bit is .149" in diameter, but I drilled a hole .167" in diameter with it, which is larger than the 8-32 studs I have, which are .158". I guess the only thing left is to order another tap set and another #25 carbide bit. ...

Re: Mhackney's Rostock Max
I tried a #25 drill bit, but that made a hole too big. The #29 is the recommended size for 8-32 threads, and I calculated the #25 was to the #29 as your oversize #31 was to a #36 for 6-32 threads. Either I got that wromg. or maybe I had the #25 slightly off center, making a larger hole than it would...

The balls are C60. The tap is for C30-C40. I'm pretty sure that's my problem.

Re: Mhackney's Rostock Max
I barely had it start to bite for cutting threads. I'm certain it was my technique, but I don't really know what I could have done differently. It wasn't cutting at all, so I put a bit more pressure towards the hole. Then it started cutting and caught and released a few times, then it broke. Before ...

Re: Mhackney's Rostock Max
Michael, how did you avoid breaking your tap? I broke my #25 carbide bit on Wednesday, most likely because the drill chuck on the turret wasn't quite lined up with the collet chuck on the headstock. Before the bit broke, it drilled a hole too large for an 8-32 tap. I got another carbide bit, this ti...

Re: Mhackney's Rostock Max
I tried drilling holes in 1/2" ball bearings last night, using a straight flute carbide bit, and chipped the bit on the first one. :-( Just as well, because a #25 is apparently too large for the 8-32 tap. Going to try again this weekend with a spot drill and a #29. I was surprised at the nice m...

Re: Mhackney's Rostock Max
OK, you talked me into it. I'll give it a try if I get down to NextFab tomorrow. The collet stop we have is 3/8 I think, so that should work fine for 1/2" balls.
