If you carriages slide smoothly and consistently along the length of the rail, that's what you're looking for. Consistent motion.

Re: State of the Printer
We just announced kits for a RailCore II will be available soon, so it's not quite so DIY.

Thanks for touching up the wiki!
And that's an interesting idea on the inserts. Others have mentioned doing some sort of a resin pour into them, but I don't know how well that'd stick with HDPE.

The toolchanger will be an "add on" to the RC II, no worries there!

I have not yet gotten the clones, only the single genuine hiwin. I'll update when I do get them.

Re: How to Rebuild Linear Rails
Misumi rails are in the same ballpark as hiwin.
I have a genuine hiwin rail now, and am awaiting the arrival of two clone rails that are supposed to be comparable in quality (and much better than the typical chinese clone), but at a much lower price.

Re: Filament run out monitor
I'm waiting to test out the new duet monitor when it's available (or they send me one).
I've not ever actually used a filament monitor to be able to recommend anything specific, though.

I haven't done anything on the tool changer, I'm hoping E3D will share their designs so we can look at some level of compatibility.

Will work for a standard build, the ZL will need two more drivers, which is sounds like may be able to be added.

Re: RailCoreII 300ZL Released!
We will do a tool changer of some sorts at some point. Nothing stopping anyone from doing it first, it's open!
I've emailed E3D, hoping they'll release their setup open enough we can implement it, if not, I'll roll my own.
So nope, should work great! Welcome!

Regarding Idlers and "Belt Walk"
One issue that has come up has been with the idler mounts (and to some extent, the X carriages). What we've found is that over time the printed parts can deform from the stress of the belt tension. This will allow the idler bolts to lean. When they lean, the belts ride up on the idlers and rub on th...

How to Rebuild Linear Rails
So, time to address linear rails. I recently put some new linear rails on my X axis. I didn't clean them before I did, which was a mistake. I've been getting some print artifacts I just solved by cleaning one of the new rails. Turns out it was filled with sludge. So, how do you clean a rail? First, ...

Re: Filament Give-away!
Clarification of the rules for this contest:
This is for a US Dollar BOM
Any like for like part substitutions are fine. If you want to get linear rails from Robotdigg, alieexpress, etc. that's fine. But you can't switch the MGN12 to MGN9, for example.

Sure thing - if you have any questions, fire away!
My 250ZL is printing beautifully, it's a real tank of a printer. The 300ZL is just scaled up with some minor tweaks.

RailCoreII 300ZL Released!
Today we're putting the Z-Leveling (ZL) option of the RailCore II 300ZL out as a "beta" release. There are now 4 options / builds out: RailCore II (250^3 standard build) http://a360.co/2z30VXH RailCore IIZL (250x250x275, with auto Z leveling) http://a360.co/2DoeHFu RailCore II 300 (300^3 s...

Re: 3 Stepper Z Leveling (NOT just calibration!)
The BOM is out, but parts of it may change slightly. A 250 ZL bed is on its way to me now, and I need to verify things before we fully "release" either ZL version.
That said, I don't see it changing much - just need to verify the bed attachment to the yokes, and do some stress testing.

My printer has no method to manually level anything. It levels itself, and very well.

You're welcome to - the 300 standard build is complete in f360, touching up the BOM now. Next up is the documentation, then the ZL in F360.RanchRifle wrote:Incredible. I just may have to be one of your beta testers.
