Bed won't heat
I have a Rostock Max V2 modified with a HE280. Two days ago, the bed quit heating. In recent weeks, I have been using higher bed temps of 110 degrees for ABS whereas previously I printed PLA at 60 degrees. A wire from a brick power supply to the Rambo board overheated. I replaced the supply wires fr...

Extrude is choppy - broken into segments and not complete.
Rostock Max V2. MatterControl 1.7.5 Previously, when I would select a manual 10 mm extrude, it would extrude for about 5 seconds and I would get 10 mm. Now, it is very inconsistent. If I now select 10 mm, it may extrude 1 or 2 mm pause and then extrude a few more millimeters but not enough to make 1...

How to hot-swap filament on Rostock Max?
Is it possible to change a depleted reel of filament for a fresh reel when the printer is in the process of printing a part?

Preparing to print but no print starts
I have been using a Rostock Max V2 for a few years and today I finished assembling a V3. Some nice additions and changes in the V3 vs V2. When I select "Print" the status changes to preparing to print but nothing happens. The next message is "Next print". The Z height calibration...

Not all glue sticks are the same.
My favorite glue stick, for years, has been FantaStick washable but my country has limited availability of it now so I have tried others. Recent trial was Dolphin Stick washable. The Dolphin Stick creates a pitted first layer. FantaStick doesn't. 20180820_091911.jpg The part printed using Dolphin. I...

Re: Extruded filament has gaps, is not consistent.
Thanks, rootboy. First, I apologize for not updating when I was told about a potential fix for my problem. Andy at SeeMeCNC asked: "Have you tried another spool of filament?" I hadn't. I was on the third reel of three reels of a filament from Tianse. The first two reels had printed fine. I...

Re: MatterControl 1.6 extruder controls temp 5 degrees too high
I am experiencing the same problem. The hot end temperature overshoots the target and does not return to the target. Printer is Rostock Max V2 with original hot end. Software MatterControl 1.5.3 Autotune run three times now with similar values each time. The overshoot behavior is the same regardless...

Extruded filament has gaps, is not consistent.
After many months of happy printing, the filament does not extrude consistently. See the attached photo. The photo is of the skirt for a 200 mm diameter model. It is the first loop of a two loop skirt. After the second loop, the gaps are not as noticeable but they are there. Printer is Rostock Max V...

Hot end doesn't reach bed.
Using Rostock Max V2, MatterControl 1.6.1. I posted about this on 9 January but the problem went away until today. It is only happening with one set of four parts printed as one job. See the photo. The hot end descends toward the bed and sort of goes crazy before it reaches the bed. There is a video...

Printing in mid air problem
Using Rostock Max V, MatterControl 1.6.1. As the printer starts printing, after about one inch, the hot end lifts off of the bed and starts extruding in mid air. It continues to raise up at about a 15 degree angle and if I don't turn the printer off, the hot end crashes into the Z tower. I can work ...

Hot end and bed can't heat at same time.
I have been having considerable difficulty getting the hot end to reach the preset temperature. Now, I have noticed that if I leave the bed heater off, the hot end has no trouble reaching the preset temperature. If I then put the bed heater on, the hot end drops about ten degrees. Does anyone have a...

Re: Prints at a slant digging into the bed and then lifting off.
Xenocrates, thanks for your suggestion. I slowed non-print travel speed from 300 to 100 mm/s and the print finished. It did so, however, with many more stringers than I normally get. I will bring the speed up a bit to see if I can reduce the stringers but at least I have a part and I can clean most ...

Prints at a slant digging into the bed and then lifting off.
Our printer has been working very well lately and we tried printing a larger part. It is an arm for a 3DRobotics IRIS+ quadcopter. Rostock Max V2, PLA, Part length about 21 cm (8.5") width 3.5 cm (1.25"). The only setting that we have changed from earlier prints is changing Outer Surface -...

Re: Red RTV silicone cure time
Yes, I used Permatex Ultra Copper High Temp RTV. It seems like it has skinned over to a depth of a few millimeters and that skin is keeping the internal Permatex from solidifying. The other question is the age of the RTV I am using. It is at least three years old. It seems to flow easily and doesn't...

I am in a warm part of Africa where the room temperature for the printer is around 75 degrees. Any idea how much longer? Could it be several days longer?

Red RTV silicone cure time
The Rostock MAX V2 manual says " it takes 24 hours for the RTV to set fully". I waited 24 hours and applied power. Vapor or smoke started coming from the resistor cavity. I removed power and checked the resistor cavity and it seems that the RTV has only "set" on the outside. It h...

Re: Hot end won't reach target temperature
Thank you Eaglezsoar. Not a bad price for the replacement resistors at $2 each but I am in Africa and the cheapest mode of shipping is $18.25. That cheapest method usually takes about four weeks to get things from the USA to Africa and sometimes things don't arrive at all. UPS is $173.20 and that si...

The problem turned out to be an open circuit resistor -- infinite resistance. Now to find a replacement. Does anyone know the resistance and wattage of the resistors I should be looking for.

Hot end won't reach target temperature
I have been happily using a Rostock MAX V2 for about six months. As of today, the hot end fails to reach the target temperature. I am printing PLA at 195 degrees. The hotend would only reach about 190 degrees and then hover there. I could dial in a higher temperature and it would get hotter but it w...

Help - Extruder stepper melts PLA
Relatively new to my Rostock MAX V2. Have gone through 1 kilogram of ABS and started on a reel of PLA. I had printed about 32 meters of reel of PLA at 210 degrees hot end temperature and 65 degrees bed. Today, I was about 100 minutes into a print when I started to hear strange noises from the extrud...
