Retraction: high pitched motor
Video: https://youtu.be/iZO8FGTc4Ms When searching for noisy extruders, I mostly found skipping complaints. I'm not skipping or grinding. I'm testing out an alternate location for my extruder on my Artemis and haven't committed to removing the old motor yet, so I've got this older 1.8 step I salvage...

Re: Belt Tensioning
That's an interesting mod. It'd depend on how many teeth are on each belt length though. And also, which tooth the carriage grips at as well. When you "pluck" them, do they sound similar? I tightened my belts a while ago and didn't see a huge improvement in quality in my prints btw, have y...

Looks good!
Share some more when you can. It's always fun to see what people are using these printers for.

Re: adarcher's build/troubleshooting
It's actually not the default rate, but the max rate. Again, to get around something dumb that Cura does. g. Yeah, I'm getting fed up with Cura actually. I want something that won't hop around inside the print doing little dots of plastic to fill holes that shouldn't have been there at the start.

Re: Enable strain gauge Z probe?
I'm using those 4 spare probe wires. I don't remember if they came naked or in the connector, but there were bundled up there already in a connector--plugged it in and blam-o, first try worked. Since then, I've only hit the max probe count for a single point once, and it was because I left a failed ...

Re: Enable strain gauge Z probe?
I went ahead and played with this a bit ago. I unplugged the FSR cable Plugged in the "tucked away" probe cable Found some small "washers" to clamp the heat spreader to the metal frame under the bed clips Tightened it up nicely Changed over to the probe config.g settings and adde...

Re: adarcher's build/troubleshooting
The default max speed isn't set for E as far as I know. The only *explicit* default movement rate is set for the Z axis, and that's done in the pre & post gcode because of something dumb that Cura does. g. Since I changed it, I had to go look it up. It's at 30000 in the github repo (both FSR an...

Re: adarcher's build/troubleshooting
Yup, but something else is different in the 1.21 firmware because without changing from stock anything, the XYZ motors create that highpitch noise and don't move--that's what I was talking about, the extruder is what reminded me of what could be the issue. The culprit was the "G0 Z5 F30000;&qu...

Re: Enable strain gauge Z probe?
Any news on this?
I see the repo has the strain gauge set as default now...
I'll start looking at the differences in the construction docs, I know I've already got the wires up at the top, just don't know where to connect them.
Probably need to make harder mounts for the bed as well.

Re: adarcher's build/troubleshooting
as i mentioned - i found that 12v can not run a geared extruder at high speed: that is in part why i am going to 24v. dc provided a link to the math.. there is no reason to heat the bed to calibrate .. Re: Mods.. (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly)
Why wouldn't you use the Capricorn inside the hot end? Are you having to print slower with the Titan because of the weight from the direct drive. Have you seen the Nimble yet. They're out of stock but I want one for my v3. The ir probe is not nearly as accurate as the fsr. Plus they're a pain to us...

Re: adarcher's build/troubleshooting
If you rename the DuetWiFiFirmware.bin file that you want to install to Duet2CombinedFirnware.bin and upload it through DWC on the Settings General page, it should install. Thanks, I got it to install--great work on the firmware update rate btw. Before I did that though, I debugged the high pitch s...

Re: adarcher's build/troubleshooting
@wepollock, I really feel like you don't read my posts sometimes. Your comments don't make a lot of sense if you had. There isn't much that isn't stock on my printer. I have mentioned that I like to keep it stock while I fix the issues. I've tried different extruders and hotends and always return ba...

Re: adarcher's build/troubleshooting
Hah. The universe doesn't want me to be happy with this printer... Got the pulley back on--was a lot easier than I initially feared now that I looked at the printer in proper light. I concede I was much too hasty before on dissing the belt tensioning. Though, I am a bit frustrated with not getting m...

Excellent news!
Mine still isn't in "production shape" yet, and is noisy. Looking forward to some time off soon to really play with it.

I've got those crimpers too, was finally able to do some 1mm pins at work the other day. Even then, I decided my hands are too shaky now a days and I just buy pre-crimped wires from digikey in bulk if I've got more than just a few to do.

Congrats!
It's Friday today, did you get it?
Post your build if you want. It should go together easily. I had one of the first ones and had minor issues, the support is top notch.

Feel free to share the information once you find out though.
I'm not a fan of the connectors and will probably make some conversions myself at some point.

Re: adarcher's build/troubleshooting
My eyes were playing with me then. There is a hole under the pulley and when I tried pushing the fully loosened injection molded piece down, it would just pivot over the hole--I guess I'm just not as strong as I thought I was. I'll need a tensioning bolt or something.

Re: adarcher's build/troubleshooting
Currently have the machine offline again. Was able to squeeze out some prints for the the FB group Eiffel Tower project though. The parts had some pretty bad ringing in them, so I plucked the belts and they were so loose I could barely hear a low rubbery sound when I should have heard a twang of som...

Re: Enable strain gauge Z probe?
You could always download the configuration files and the bed configuration file and compare them. I find my calibration results are identical between the FSR probing on the Artemis and my v3 using the Duet board and accelerometer. About .02 sometimes .015. I'd like to move away from the frs becaus...

I tend to see these layer seams disappear when I've got retraction settings setup correctly.
Also, check your coasting settings in cura.

Re: Enable strain gauge Z probe?
I'll make you a deal - when *I* know how it's done, *you'll* know how it's done. ;) The v1.1 SE300 PCB has the strain gauge on it and the wiring is in the harness, but I haven't had time to chase down the details beyond that. I'll hopefully find out how it's done at MRRF and then I'll get it writte...

Ah ok, do you know if it'll be something we "early adopters" will be able to "turn on" or would we have to order the newest version of the effector board?
