Re: Tall & Thin! (now with bed stick!)

yep, good idea. makes me think I'm at work too much though :-P (lab notebooks) Tried to load slicer, it has some interesting settings that matterslice doesn't have I wanted to play with. Sadly as soon as i pressed print it crashed the hot end into the plate and dragged it way way off center of the p...

Re: Tall & Thin! (now with bed stick!)

Also, is there any way to pull up the settings used on a particular print? Yesterday i had this gecko that printed without blobs/zits. I can view it in print history but I cant find anything useful there. I can remember a few things done differently (lower print speed for instance) but a lot of the ...

Tall & Thin! (now with bed stick!)

Yay - seem to have resolved most of my bed adhesion/curling issues with ABS on small footprint parts. Was working on printing a bracelet for my younger sister. Here is what helped me with ABS SeeMeCNC Arctic White 1.63mm Print 4-5 skirt layers to ensure nozzle primed Move skirt 0.3mm away from body ...

Re: Power Supply Fan Cooling Bed? + first print results!

I had the exact same experience with the bed heat up at exactly the same temps with the PSU fan cycling on. I'm pretty sure it's the fan air blowing on the bed thermistor (which recovers the instant the fan stops). My upper base plate had a small circular hole in the dead center, through which I ha...

Re: Bed Temp Happy Underachieving

Nope, it's:
M303 P1 C8 S90

This hopefully will be added back into the user manual.

apparently a known issue since Oct. '15

Re: Bed Temp Happy Underachieving

Thanks, going to try this from a wiki once my bed cools:
PID autotune
If you are using PID then you should run autotune to make sure it is correctly calibrated for your bed.

M303 E-1 C8 S90 //this will run autotune at 90 degrees, for 8 cycles

Bed Temp Happy Underachieving

Sorry for all the noob questions - I swear i spend a long time searching/reading... I'm having an issue where my filament profile has a bed target temp. I press print. Bed starts heating: Target 90C Actual: 88 +/- 0.5 It will sit here forever! like literally waited 20+ minutes. Print won't start bec...

Re: Improved Rostock V Max initial calabration technique

Having just finished my second marathon calibration I also have a small question and maybe suggestion to make regarding horizontal radius changes in the manual. Currently the advice is: "If from the center position the nozzle goes up from the glass at all three towers, you'll want to lower the ...

Re: Power Supply Fan Cooling Bed? + first print results!

I think the gap between the top/bottom surface and the perimeter crept in during the MatterControl 1.5 update. When I switch from matterslicer to cura, I get a good surface. Anyone else seeing this? I fixed the gap by changing my infill overlap from 1mm to 1.2mm. I'd read that different slicers cou...

Re: Power Supply Fan Cooling Bed? + first print results!

@geneb Maybe i overlooked it but I suspect that advice wasn't there in my version of the build manual. 4th edition has been changed since I assembled the bottom plate in Dec '16. SeeMeCNC doesn't seem good at emailing previous customers about identified issues. Plastic plug design was uploaded a mon...

Power Supply Fan Cooling Bed? + first print results!

During warm-up for my first print (and then again during my first print) I noticed the following oddity: Bed temperature stopped climbing for entire duration of power supply fan cycle (1-2 minutes?) Bed target was 80C, reached 75C stablilized and stayed bouncing there. As soon as fan cycled off, bed...

Well that did the trick! back to z0 setting and calibration!
Thanks for the help guys - i have a feeling this printer will be a good lesson in humility.

Re: Calibration Fail - move out of plane/uneven - new Rostoc

yep the drive gear on the stepper is definitely backwards. no idea how i missed that when constructing three identical parts. was a jerk to get back off with thread-lok - even stripped one of my hex wrenches but thankfully i had two sets (not a metric/sae thing). the wiring isn't rubbing on anything...

Re: Calibration Fail - move out of plane/uneven - new Rostoc

FRACK! anyone else see the likely issue in the z-axis? was having binding issues on z when operating manually after retensioning.

Re: Calibration Fail - move out of plane/uneven - new Rostoc

Hmm, i fixed the stutter/skipping steps by redoing the belt tensioning on x and y. Everything moves smoothly manually with no noises and similar resistance now on all axis.

Still the same behavior upon command.

let me try belt tensioning on z - maybe its an issue even without audible.

Re: Calibration Fail - move out of plane/uneven - new Rostoc

Ooh, thanks! I just tested by hand, at slow speed everything moves fine manually on all axis. At fast movements I get a stutter in the carriage for x and y, z moves up and down smoothly. Not sure how to fix this yet but probably my issue. I did have to change the motor current as instructed since I ...

Calibration Fail - move out of plane/uneven - new Rostock V2

I finally got the mechanical build of my stock Rostock Max V2 completed! Purchased in Dec'15 (delayed build) Temperature controls working and homing working. Getting pretty excited now! Ran into an issue on the axis movement calibration step though. When moving in the z-axis plane the hot-end meande...

Re: First 3D printer build - GlassRod85 - Rostock Max V2

Thanks Eagle. Really appreciate the feedback Xeno - particularly from someone with experience with those same mods judging from your signature line. I thought maybe i needed to upgrade PSU/wire gauge since a few threads mentioned improved bed heating but sounds like this will be fine. I have no plan...

First 3D printer build - GlassRod85 - Rostock Max V2

Greetings! I am super excited to start my 3D printer kit build. I considered purchasing the Makerbot Replicator 2 last year but the high cost caused me to pause. Seeing 3D printer sales on Black Friday(Amazon)lead me to research printers again. Reddit, https://www.3dhubs.com/best-3d-printer-guide&q...
