Simplify 3D Profile, New Nozzle, and Lots of Experimentation

I have been messing with the Simplify 3D profile for the Eris and I think I got the best one so far. It's all thanks to the new nozzle that John told me about at MRRF, apparently they machined it with a better profile so it has way less back pressure and requires less heat to prevent under extruding...

Revisiting the Eris

I haven't used the Eris much at all since since the spring when I got it. I have had issues with Z-height and the auto-level using Simplify 3D, and under extruding while printing under 220C. When I can get it to print it works well though. I kind of want to mod it now to make it at least more reliab...

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

https://youtu.be/MMIU6IxrZzg I did an updated video of my Eris printing since the replacement hotend assembly was installed. Two things still: 1.) Had to remove the ultralex sticker and started printing on glass with glue stick which sticks well. I used business cards underneath to keep the glass fr...

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

I also noticed looking at the IGES files, that it's for an earlier version of the Eris. For example I want to modify the spool holder model in Solidworks but I see it's slightly different than the production model. I do like the User Manual you uploaded, it's looking good. I love open source hardware!

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

Is the new firmware listed here: https://github.com/seemecnc/Firmware for the Eris specifically? I need to update the firmware. I am having problems extruding less than 220C which I think is really high for most PLA's, is that supposed to be that high? Edit: I figured out the firmware and updated it...

Re: Shenanigans, and Modifications

I turned the heater block 180 degrees because in the stock position, it is just under the accelerometer chip. Do you think the heat from the hot-end could have caused the calibration issues JATMN and myself had. I'm getting a replacement effector assembly sent to me from support, I might try this m...

what was the issue with the board? Maybe it's the same issue preventing my auto-calibration from working every time.

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

themitch22, have you contacted support yet? g. Yes I have, I'm working with support now. I got it to calibrate well once, so it's printing again. Thanks I realize it's a less common issue I'm having but it should stay calibrated between prints. I made a simple tripod phone mount last night. [img]ht...

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

Well I figured out how to manually calibrate Z max height which is at least helpful for the auto-calibration to have a reference point. I think once I get a successful calibration I'll save the EEPROM values in mattercontrol and restore them before running an auto-calibration.

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

https://youtu.be/wIfYs2bQBQ0 I got a video of what the auto-calibration is doing exactly. I'm not sure what the registry values are supposed to read. I also could try editing the eeprom values manually in MatterControl (tower height, horizontal radius etc). JATMN suggested using MatterControls bed l...

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

My auto-calibration still doesn't work most of the time. I just have to keep running it and running it until it finally finishes. when I carry it around it probably shifts a little and z-height is a little off. I will literally run about 20 times some times z-probe failing until it gives up. Support...

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

themitch22, you really need to contact support about the issues you're having. Nobody here has enough experience with the Eris to be able to help you. g. Sorry, I have contacted support email. I'll get their live chat too. It printed last night though so that's good. Like JATMN suggested I used a d...

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

OK, on a whim I flipped the plate over to glass and did the full calibration. I think that worked it probed successfully. I really don't understand what that's supposed to mean though? Is it just really soft material the head doesn't detect it? I know the Z-probe is failing because when it does it's...

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

So I cleared the EEPROM, reloaded the latest repetier firmware again. Tried to do a full calibration.gcode it probed the three points fine, skips the first center probe for the radius and does the probe tap for the outside radius, then it tries to do the Z-height probe and keeps failing about 10mm b...

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

themitch22, try running the eeprom_clear program and then try a new firmware upload. The eeprom_clear program will ensure that you're not starting out with weird values. Please DO contact support - there may be issues going on that we're not aware of but they are. g. Thanks I'll try that tonight. I...

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

Welp it's completely stopped working properly. I used M502 to reset to defaults. I uploaded the current firmware three times now. I ran the Full Calibration GCODE many times and it now will have the head crash into the front left tower when it's probing. The nozzle is as clean as I can get it, the h...

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

It wasn't the PLA causing the issue, it was the temperature that the chip was at. When the hot end is heated up, the PCB hovers around 80c - this is at or slightly outside the operating temperature of the accelerometer - it won't return reliable results at that temperature. That's why auto-cal must...

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

Why will it tap three times on the outer plate area and sometimes it will tap three times in the inner print plate area? I finally got it to probe but it's very inconsistent when I run it multiple times. IS there some sort of acceleration issue when trying to get the accelerometer to react?

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

It fails at different parts of the process. I upgraded to the latest firmware and running the g-code script. Did anything really change? ...

Hi geneb, Thanks for the update. How does one check the current firmware version? Can it be done via the MatterControl software? Also, is there some documentation on how to update the firmware on the Eris? Thanks in advance. Download the updated source firmware from their github https://github.com/...

Also for the newbies, You have to download and use the RAMBo drivers (I had to google them), let windows fail to install driver then manually select the downloaded drivers. That might trip up some new people.

Re: ERIS Early adopter feedback

Would other slicers besides Mattercontrol work if I use the same custom gcode and settings? I'm thinking Simplify3D and Cura 1.5.
