Re: Artemis - Build Notes

Powder Coat as an insulator. I just got an email with a service bulletin. During my build I did check grounding because I was concerned that the powder coat would act as an insulator. My meter suggested that I was getting enough connection from the power supply box (which is also ground) to the fra...

Kiss - Surprise

Simplify 3d was TKO'ed (technically knocked out) by a Microsoft Windows 10 update and I had to scramble to find an "temporary" substitute slicer. I retried slic3r and Cura and was not happy with either which brought me to KISS. Surprise, So far KISS is by far the best slicer, it may perman...

Re: Mods.. (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly)

When I mounted the titan aero on the effector I did not consider part cooling. I printed some PETG "tusks" that put the cooling exactly where it needs to be. I had to restrict bed.g a bit and I lost some printing height and radius. I think that the bed.g works a bit better without going to...

Re: Printing my own trucks M665 / M666

Dave... your work on/with/building/supporting/designing the duet blows me away.

My Duet powered Rostock Max V2 is morphing into the "rat rod" of 3D printers. Wow, can it print.
The printer is quiet as well, my family thanks you!

Re: Printing my own trucks M665 / M666

Here is a picture of my Duet Project Box.. and a Fusion rendering of homemade "trucks" I might use. I will have a "jig to align them to center and then bolt in "tevo" wheels. My "duet" rostock max is currently printing two v2 trucks. The wheels are wearing out on m...

Printing my own trucks M665 / M666

I am printing out my own trucks to replace my very well used cheapskates. I don't know if I will get "very cheap cheapskates" or even if I am being a cheapskate on this particular project. It might be cheaper to go with replacement cheapskates. I think I can eek out a bit more rigidity. I ...

Re: SLA experienced and PLA ignorant! Hello All!

It's a little hard to tell from the pictures but I think that the "first layer" may be a bit too close to the bed. It also looks like your temperature is set too high for most PLA's (235 may be ok for some PLA's) ---60 degree bed temperature is usually a good point for PLA. ---Some PLA's l...

Re: Duet Tuning.

Thanks X just looking at it.. it looks like M666 can replace the set screws I don't want to run another cable to a sensor. My "mistake" in the Artemis build was not to run spare wires - next time I have it apart I may run some GTE 2 pair https://www.ebay.com/itm/GTE-Telephone-Station-Cable...

Re: Duet Tuning.

ON an interim basis, I am going to move my rostock max v2 over to Duet; I want to make sure that the connections to power, hot end, and bed have Ferrules This seems to me to be a major safety feature. -I tested a crimp with my wire stripper, the crimp is functional, but I am not quite happy with the...

Re: Enable strain gauge Z probe?

Great to hear that you fixed the bed leveling concern. Are you using the four spare "probe" wires? Also, how does the "skirt brim" feel? <--to me that subjective indicator as to whether or not I will have a dialed in first layer. I would be interested in finding out how the ir se...

Re: Duet Tuning.

Xen.. I see you have done lots of good stuff to the Rostock max including FSR. If I go duet on the Rostock Max, what about noise? Are the stepper drivers reducing noise or is it the micro-stepping? Commonality and separating lab from production are good things to have. When I escape from New York.. ...

Re: Duet Tuning.

I think that Duet firmware is a Bin file (compiled) but I do think the source code is accessible (which I have never looked at because I hate software). The duet issue was tuning thermistor settings - which I accomplished. The only issue remaining is whether or not the thermistor is reporting accura...

Re: Mods.. (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly)

I just put a Bondtech direct driver extruder with an E3dV6 hotend on my Rostock Max V2 Franken-Printer. Instead of using a stepper from E3d that is .9 degrees I used a RobotDigg 1.8 stepper which weighs in at 200 grams; both these motors are equally as wimpy @14nm. E3d suggested that if I go to town...

Re: Mods.. (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly)

Here is an idea for a partial enclosure; not to keep heat in; but to stop cold air from rolling into the printer from the adjacent window.
A piece of Lexan would work too... but this is much cheaper.
Thoughts?

Re: Enable strain gauge Z probe?

Good to know that G32 is really checking how the effector travels in a plane. There is not much error there. The elements involved in moving the effector are the least rigid - belts - arms (they are pretty ridgid). With a extruder mounted on the effector I am introducing more mass into the most flex...

Re: Enable strain gauge Z probe?

My current thinking about "auto leveling" is that the Artemis being very ridged, and the bed being very flat; that there is really no reason to auto level. On the rostock max you have to correct for differences in tower height by fiddling with the endstop screws. Here you can do that in so...

Re: Mods.. (The Good, The Bad, The Ugly)

It's more likely that I'll give up on the SE300 and install a e3dv6 though. I am still very surprised that an effector mounted extruder is far superior to the bowden configuration, even without cooling. --I am even getting better prints by disabling zhop... Z hop of .3 is still required for the sup...

Ok.. this is with an E3d thermistor.. properly calibrated.. Duet is reporting 200.. the thermocouple is reporting 220... @ 195 I am reading 215 @ 190 I am reading 210 (I will just print low.. | its hard to figure out what is the correct temperature) The temp is rock solid [img]http://i.imgur.com/ZY7...

Re: Duet Tuning.

I finally got in a handheld thermocouple. I am using a Biqu thermistor. The advantage is that the resistor is prewired in a home run and fully wrapped. I found that unless you secure an E3d thermistor down properly the wires break off from the connector. The problem with the Biqu is I don't know the...
