Re: I now own a mini CNC router and a 3D printer

flink The trouble with lost foam is three fold. 1 Hard to get good surface texture. 2 Foam does not machine well. so it is hard to make patterns in the small sizes I'm working in. 3 For lost foam to work well you have to have the right density of foam so it burns out at a controlled rate and gives g...

Re: I now own a mini CNC router and a 3D printer

Mike Yes it is bolted to the table so moves in Y axis. With the 4to1 reduction on the Y axis I can move it at 50"per min and rapid even faster without missing steps. JT Heli-coils would be nice but I think I can get away with out them. With a water jet available you can make all kinds of neat m...

Re: I now own a mini CNC router and a 3D printer

Here is what 276 4mm taped holes and 8 mounting holes gets you. A table that is 9.5"X18" so I can route large parts. I have to reset the part if it is bigger than 8X8. I've been routing model tow boat parts for some guys in CA. [img]http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q3/Dave_Sohlstrom/000_...

Re: Can;t get ABS to stick to heated bed

After reading the replies here I tryed the ABS and acetone mix. I made my mix fairly thick and used a paint brush to put down a layer on a hot table. I've been printing now for 3 hrs I'm18.5mm high out of 25 and not lift at the corners. Do not know how hard it is going to be to get it off the table....

Re: Can;t get ABS to stick to heated bed

I am having the same problem Andy is. I am trying to print a part that is 2.5X4.75x1" . My first layer squish is good and seems to stick well but by the time I am 2 to 3mm high the corners are starting to lift off. The table is running at around 100C with Kapton tape. I am starting to think tha...

Re: Replace hot-end 6.6KΩ resistor with 10KΩ or 4.7KΩ

cujul I did some quick figuring and I believe that SeeMeCNC will ship to you using a small USPS flat rate box so total cost to you should be around 15.29 euro. It might pay to get extra teflon tube and other supplies you may need because the shipping would be the same I do believe. All the resistors...

Your just going to have to mod your H-1 into a traveling H-1. Then you will have something to do in the motel at night rather than watch the one eye cyclops.

Re: Heated bed temp

Well my heated bed with 75 watts at 12 volts is working good. It does take a little time for it to get to temp but I am retired and not going any where so I can live with it. It is nice to have parts with flat bottoms. I have some big parts that need printing so will see how it does on those.

Re: Yoda - because I can

I printed a horizontal half cylinder 40mm dia 40mm long with a 20mm hole in it. Slic3r .25mm layer 3 perimeters . I had the same problem with gaps as the angle reduced at the top of the hole and at the top of the print. I agree it would be great if we could set Slic3r so it reduces the step over as ...

Heated bed temp

What temp are the folks with heated beds running at.I am shooting for 100C. I am running a 75 watt heating pad designed to go on the pan of an engine. Temp comes up slowly and I think I will get to 100C. Right now 16 min into the print I am at 92.

Re: I now own a mini CNC router and a 3D printer

Carl These bearing blocks were machined on my vert mill. The holes for the bearings in my case are 16mm so I drilled 13mm the biggest metric drill I own and then bored them out to 16mm using my boring head. The mill has 3 axis DRO so I could get all the bearing hole located in all 4 blocks correctly...

Re: Curved Bronze Bearing upgrade

I expect you have thought of this. Make double sure that the radius of your profile tool is exactly .125" if it is off say .126" then the point of contact will still be one point on the roller. If .124 then it will not seat and point of contact will be the very edges of the roller. Looks g...

Limiting G0 rapid speed

I have been searching the Mach3 manual to try and find out how to limit G0 rapid move speeds. I do not find any information on how to do this. When I bring my G1 speeds up the G0 speed goes to high and I start loosing steps. How do I do this.

Re: (Group Buy) for 7"x7.5" Heated Bed

There may be another option to building a heated bed using circuit boards with traces. The people that built this heating pad will build them to what ever wattage and voltage you need. This one is a 50watt at 3"x6" 12 VDC. I can check with my son in law and find out where he is getting the...

Re: JT's H-1 build log and mods

JT Welcome to the Hot End Melt down Club. I finally have all the parts to finish the rebuild of my hot end. I finally got the duel temp controller from Turkey. It uses a thermocouple for the hot end rather than a thermistor. The thermocouple bolts to the hot end so it will not fall out of a hole lik...

It has taken a lot of years and a lot of money to get the shop where it is today. Now I have to design and build a CNC router that will take a 18"X24" sheet of material.

Re: I now own a mini CNC router and a 3D printer

Well the Y axis just got Granny gear. While waiting for parts to arrive for the new hot end I decided that I would stretch the printer X axis and while I had the thing apart I discovered I had the parts to add a 4 to 1 reduction to the Y axis. Here are the results. If you stop the table from moving ...

interesting the wiki says it melts at 662F so I guess my temp probe reading around 650 was close. Kind of hard to tell with the panic of getting it shut down.

Re: Two types of 3D printer owners

Mike I agree. I could not think of a material that would do a better job so I kept the PEEK. Who in the group knows the temp that PEEK starts to soften and melt. I do know it melts real well at 650F.

Re: Two types of 3D printer owners

I have noted that the plastic mounting plate already has some signs of heat. I tried to think of a way to change out the PEEK but I was unable to figure a way to keep the heat away from the plastic parts so just went with Steve's design. I do have threaded holes available that I can attach a heat sh...
