Motor Upgrades

The day before my replacement RAMBo board came in, the motor dampers from astroboy907's group buy came in. So I installed them. They work great. I'm not sure how much quieter they really are, since the printer was down for three weeks, but they _seem_ quieter. IMG_9890.JPG While I had the motors out...

Re: SOLD: Astrosyn NEMA 17 dampers

I'm a little late here, but Astro Boy, I want to thank you for pulling this together. The dampers work great. You found us a great product, and you shipped them out fast. I appreciate all of that.

Conclusion

I want to close up this old thread. I did replace my RAMBo. I did not recover the USB port on the first RAMBo. More details are in my build log thread: Death of a RAMBO.

Flateric, if it is an extra Rambo the easy way would be to have someone else do it for you ;-) It isn't hard to do if you have a programmer, it was getting the programmer's drivers correct that was a challenge for me. If you want to give it a go I'll be happy to help if I can... Ward I was able to ...

Re: Arduino Error Compiling

So I'm still working on the first version of the Rostock Max and I'm trying to set up the Arduino software. I set up the correct serial port and selected Arduino Mega 2560/ Mega ADK for my board. Then I clicked the upload button and this popped up in the error compiling. core.a(main.cpp.o): In func...

Re: Using RAMPS

The drivers are designed to shed heat from the back side of the device, the intent being that a copper pad is placed on the board itself to act as a small heatsink, I suspect that Rambo is in a better position with this than the pololu daughter boards if for no other reason than there is no airflow...

Re: Please hear my request oh hardware designer god's!

Two comments. 1) We have digital calipers. They have linear position sensors that have a nominal resolution of 20 microns. (Opinions vary on whether they actually achieve that resolution. (-: ) The cost is low -- basically a single-sided PCB as long as the distance you want to track. The complete ca...

Re: Source for wood used with Rostock?

Why not use birch ply? The primary advantage of the melamine board is that it's cheap. You'd probably need to go thicker than 5mm, though.

Re: 2nd Edition Review Thread

The opening in the center of the T-slot really isn't large enough for much else. g. The three limit switches share a common ground, so only four conductors are needed. A four conductor ribbon cable would fit with just a little curling. You can separate the conductors where it needs to bend sharply,...

Yes, spiderwire is amazing stuff...at making a mess in a baitcaster, and dammit sometimes when you get hung up you WANT the line at the end to brake. Impressive stuff indeed.. I hope it is spectra fishing line they are intending to use instead of nylon monofilament, although I don't know much about...

Re: HotEnd average missing

What would cause the average or (brown) squiggly line to be suddenly missing on the temperature plot during a hotend test run ( M303 S200 ) ? ? ? Every thing seems to be working ok. There are menu items to micromanage the temperature graphs' appearance. On the Mac version of Repetier Host, they're ...

Death of a RAMBo

About July 28th, I was heating my printer, getting ready to calibrate its height. Several minutes into the heating cycle, the LCD display went wacky. I think it turned into all white blocks, but my memory could be faulty. After I poked at it a little, I got the LCD panel to come back. I don't know h...

Calibration Results

So your measured geometry values worked out well I presume? That hollow cube looks pretty good! It looks like my last post about calibration was on July 18th. Between then and now, my printer has been inoperable most of the time for a bunch of reasons. I measured the distance between each pair of t...

Did you miss me? On July 17th, I took the delta arms off my printer. That started an odyssey of calibration, rebuilding, repairing, and upgrading that finally ended this morning at 12:15 AM when I successfully printed a calibration cube. Here is the cube that I printed. It measures 20.00 mm across. ...

626pilot, my dial indicator mod made that process a whole lot easier and more repeatable. It's not as sexy as a fully automatic solution, but it can be ready to use in the time it takes you to print a bracket and drive to Harbor Freight. My bed is dialed in to about 0.0006 inches (0.015 mm). http://...

Find a junked inkjet printer. They have hardened steel rods for the carriage to slide on. You will have to cut it, and you may have to turn it down, but it's free material.

Run it through the side channels in the extrusions. Cover them over with a strip of acetate or something similarly thin and stiff. Annoted Extrusion.png You'll have to figure out how to route it so it doesn't go under the bolts and T-slot nuts. Or maybe you can use bolts short enough that they don't...

If I read this right... You have two problems. Not one. USB: If you see it in Arduino, it should flow through to Repetier.......meaning that Repetier is a problem somehow. Don't trust that you get current all the way through from the board to the hot end. Try seeing if you have a short between eith...

The Kysan gear motor has an 8 mm shaft. The EZStruder gear fits a 5 mm shaft. You would have to modify one or the other.
