Re: Blocking UV light

If it's going to be a UV DLP kit, IMO it should follow some "best practices" so it's robust (one of them being using UV blocking acrylic). It's not so much an issue printing inside, but if a person takes this to a makerfaire and prints outside or is printing someplace lit by mercury vapor...

I feel that site is unnecessarily expensive for what you're getting in return. Does anyone know of an alternative?

Re: Brent's DropLit Projector Calibration

Brent, I just created a pdf set of test 9 patterns that are 3" x 3". I don't have a projector yet, but I felt these might be useful for both setting the Zoom while open and setting the focus on the printer. As long as the PDF's aren't rescaled (ie "fit the page"), any of them sh...

Re: BETA testers discussion

Well that sucks! I had to take my son back to college today and UPS attempted delivery while I was away. They did not leave my DropLit so now I am a day behind! I wish I knew that it would require a signature-I would have waived that. I get UPS deliveries everyday for my fly reel business so I am s...

Whichever projector you purchase is absolutely fine. However, this is the one that is currently being tested by Guanu and possibly JJ.

[Video]Acer P1283 Modification Tutorial

I filmed and edited this video yesterday. It includes advice from Guanu and John's post as well as some of my own. There is a big difference (audio and video) between SD and HD on this video, please watch it in HD if you are able to. http://i.gyazo.com/f98b4c4822e7149f089b8e6f5961fcef.png Video: m

No problem Kevin. I hope you like to experiment!

UPDATE: FCPX, for whatever reason, is having issues with the exportation of this video in HD (it exports fine in SD). I'll try to get it up by tomorrow AM, sorry for any inconvenience.

Thanks for the update John. Looking forward to the video Brent. https://i.imgur.com/RTYhExO.png Finished the video, now a ton of rendering, audio compression, and video compression is going to take place. I recommend people not to modify their projectors until this video is online, Guanu helped me ...

Re: Saltwater Vat

I've tried this, and there are two really tricky parts that made me give up on it. First, the whole system is extremely vulnerable to vibration, so if someone slams a door nearby you could end up with an uneven layer cure. Second, when you raise the buildplate up after a completed layer, you need t...

No, it needs a DLP Projector hooked up to a computer. The ardunio+grbl controls the mechanics of the machine.

Saltwater Vat

So, Kyrre Aalerud (aka: KreAture) on the freenode #reprap IRC and I were talking about ways to make a better non-stick vat coating that is cheap. He came up with a method using saltwater: *Pour 1mm of saltwater (table salt) into your vat *Pour resin on top of the saltwater layer, it should float *Ad...

Re: Acer P1283

Fwiw I just tested one of these projectors with some resin and like some other ACER projectors it will happily cure the resin without having to remove the UV filter on the bulb or the color wheel. Though removing the color wheel is probably a good idea anyway. It also has the nice property that the...

Circle versions are below. The circle is 3" round. Same method applies as the images are identical for color-matching

This goes underneath the Vat. I see your concern and I'll edit the PSD to a round shape for people who want to put it inside the vat, or have the shapes match up.

Brent's DropLit Projector Calibration

This is a simple calibration method I devised for the DropLit's projector. It is an active calibration, meaning you have to match objects/shapes/text up for an accurate calibration. Both of the calibration images are 3"x3"x3", fitting the vats of the DropLits. The images are identical...

Here are some 'test' images I made. I have no idea how well these will work for calibration, they will probably fail, but I tried making some anyway.
