Gene, there you go, David is probably the guru on the casting, those were most of the YT videos I was referring to.

Google around for Youtube on the process, shows a couple of examples. You need "investment" looks much like plaster. Also something to vibrate it to help degas, or large vacuum chamber and refrigerant pump.
Gene, I guess at least some good pictures of the finished pattern?

Re: Probably the most interesting thing I've made yet...
Gene, Any chance you are documenting the process for this? I am the co-chair for the Sun N Fun fly in Engine Workshops tent and want to show how relevant this technology is for aviation, casting parts, checking parts for fit etc. Does not have to be engine related; mechanical components are good. Lo...

What if the parts had a 45* chamfer at the mating point so that centering accuracy would be consistent?

I wonder how much of the noise is transmitted through the table surface as a sounding board? Our stock V1 has always been very quiet, we only run it on a granite counter top.

Re: 3D printed rocket contest at MRRF!
A lot of it is simple common sense, designate a safety officer to make sure the area is safe before each launch and scan the sky. It would be prudent to check the nearest airfield and talk to the operator of the facility to make sure there is not a jump school or that the area is not used as a stude...

We have done business with these guys for seals on our RV project:

They represent one of the two largest seal manufacturers in the USA.

To seal the panels to each other how about printing joiners, do it in sections maybe 6" tall or some multiple of the panel height. Would look like a bent capitol "H"?

I wish I could afford to buy another one just for the fun of building it, and another one, and another one etc
Enjoy the build, it's part of the journey.

Why not draw up a test coupon; a flat area to build the samples on then a series of parallel walls each going up in wall thickness.

When you think about it, nichrome wire wound round a ceramic spool with an internal thread that can accept nozzles and an embedded thermistor would give a fast responding compact hot section.

Re: Enclosure build to print ABS and Nylon bigger and faster
Goldenrod are very low power devices, 8 watts, it probably won't get the heat up high enough. My thoughts are that if the enclosure alone with heated bed and hot end make a significant difference then 2 or 3 goldenrods may be enough to boost and maintain a level of heat without having air blowing a...

Re: Enclosure build to print ABS and Nylon bigger and faster
Thank you for the valuable feedback. Glad to hear that the E3DV6 is functional in the heated enclosure. I need to explore alternative mounts for the extruder to get it on top of the housing. If I need to heat the enclosure I might explore using Goldenrod "dehumidifiers"; google them availa...

Re: Enclosure build to print ABS and Nylon bigger and faster
I noticed you have a MAX V1 as I do, how did you fit the upper enclosure mounts to the V1 upper melamine plate? edit: okay I see they will in fact fit over the upper pulley mounts. Next question; the E3DV6 hot end cold section probably is not going to be happy in this elevated temp. Piece of cake fo...
