Awesome, I'm down in Orange. I'd love to check out a max build. I have my own that I haven't quite started yet.

Re: Ukulele print getting knocked by hot end

If it was over extrusion would it clip even on smaller prints? This only starts printing when the print gets to about 8" high.

Ukulele print getting knocked by hot end

I've been trying to print a ukulele body in 1 piece. Both attempts have failed 3/4 of the way through. The hot end started clipping the edges, and then it hits hard enough to knock the whole thing out of alignment, then it's spaghetti from there. Any thoughts? It did the exact same thing twice.

Great write up, thanks for posting. Do find that z-lift plays a role in retraction considerations? What z-lift setting do you prefer for your rostock max with E3D? Thanks!

Re: Anyone out in SoCal?

Hey bud, I'm in Orange County. I'm by no means an expert, but I did get my machine up and running (also got it from matter hackers)
I'd be happy to meet up with you and lend a hand! PM me your address and cell, I'll see if I can swing by some time.

Re: Zesty Nimble extruder technical thread

It was mentioned that the retraction was not an issue, as the rotational twist is absorbed by the 30:1 gear ratio. I'm curious if the rostock max will require a longer cable and if that increases the rotational twist. Thanks!

Re: Is PEI that good?

I had to sand my PEI since my PLA wouldn't stick to it. I sanded it with 00 steel wool, then wiped with iso. Suddenly my PLA was sticking. It's like magic.

Re: PEI is amazing!

I was having a problem getting PLA to stick to my shiny new thick sheet of PEI. I ordered some 00 steel wool and gave the surface a good rub down. That did the trick. The thick sheet has excellent removal, even now with the extra grip. Hope that helps someone else who runs into the same problem!

Yeah, I came from buildtak as well. So far this thick price of PEI has been a champ! I would recommend getting the thick stuff.

Re: PEI is amazing!

Here is my update: the 3 mil is a tad thin. I slowly wore it down. The damage was mostly with the scraper while removing prints. It slowly lifted the PEI from the bed, and made a bubble that was jabbed, which then tore. It had a good run, but it's time to go big time now. I purchased 5 squares of 12...

3M 468 adhesive removal *success*

Hi guys, I had a very thin sheet of PEI on my glass bed, and I was able to remove the adhesive. I first peeled off the PEI (some people said to put it in the freezer first; I didn't need to do that). There was a lot of adhesive left on the bed that was still very sticky. I put the bed onto my glass ...

Re: Why you should NEVER use SketchUp, which is a steaming pile of crap.

You have some valid points Pilot. I use sketchup almost exclusively, and your criticisms are valid. Things like having to scale because it can't handle small geometry are dumb things they should have fixed ages ago. Other things too like only being able to punch in the radius of a circle instead of ...

The slicing options in matter control change depending on which slicing engine you have selected.

Re: Layer cooling for MAX METAL platform

Looks nice! I can't wait to see it fixed to the hot end. My permatex paint job is still holding up. I also ran a PID autotune after the silicone was applied, and found my new values to be quite a bit different than the old values. I've almost got my fan mounts good enough for sharing. Once I adjust ...

Re: Layer cooling for MAX METAL platform

Here is a quick photo of my silicone paint job. I did a test on a spare chunk of aluminum first, and was able to easily remove it after it cured. So I felt comfortable using this on my hotend since I could change my mind at any time.
