Use 12-gauge wire for your heated bed, and upgrade your E3D to a 40-watt cartridge.
I built a Rostock MAX v1 way back in 2013. At the time, the strategy for wiring the Onyx heated bed was to use 4-conductor speaker wire, which was either 16- or 18-gauge. You'd use two wires for + and two wires for -. This worked alright, but I noticed that the connectors kept melting! I would have ...

Trust me, if you are running a Duet board, you do not want Marlin. You want RRF-dc42. Marlin's delta calibration is not as good as RRF's.[email protected] wrote:it is using marlin FW

Re: Wind generator?
I wonder if it would be useful to install a governor that could change the prop pitch. Large wind turbines and complex propeller planes have these so that they can alter the angle of attack on the blades. In the case of a large wind turbine, it needs to be able to slow down the blades when the wind ...

Re: E3D is now selling nickel-plated copper heater blocks and nozzles + hardened hobbed bolts
I have had issues with PETG. It tends to accumulate on the bottom of the nozzle, just a little bead of it, you know, but then after however many hours it degrades and turns black. Then it falls off, leaving a dark stain on whatever I'm printing. This happens pretty reliably. If their nickel-plated ...

Blog post: http://e3d-online.com/Blocks-Nozzles-Hobbs Got an email about this last week. Shipping from UK was quite prompt. Filastruder didn't have these in stock at that time, but I suppose they will sooner or later. Nozzles in many sizes Heater blocks Hardened hobbed bolt Copper conducts heat ...

Re: Direct Drive E3D Titan?
It looks nice, but I'm holding out for the Zesty Nimble, which is "remote direct drive." (Stepper on frame, drives a steel cable in a Bowden tube, drive gears on the effector.) Their Kickstarter failed, so they plan to start producing them using 3D printed (powder or SLA, not FDM) parts. Don't know ...

I also have a problem with supporting a person/company that incessantly spams the RepRap forums. *sigh* He and I have both worked on extending pre-existing firmware to do Delta calibration, and so we have spent some time conversing. He is friendly and helpful, and I gave my firmware the option to ...

Towers being twisted or leaning is something I looked into correcting for the sake of my auto-calibration Smoothie fork. I had a mathematician look at it, but he couldn't figure it out. I couldn't either. It is a very difficult problem to solve. On a Delta printer, you can correct for such things in ...

Compressible TPU Washers
Compressible TPU washers.jpg I've been working on improving my printable magnetic arm effector. One of the issues I've identified is that it's difficult to get the ball joints, which screw into captive locknuts inside the effector, to be perfectly level. PLA and PETG will only compress a tiny ...

Re: Do you earn significant money with 3D printing?
i think if you are trying to make money with 3d printing cad design or printing something and selling it is the way to go, especially with fdm printers. I think most people that know and care about quality and are willing to pay a premium for it are going to want an sls printing service and those ...

Re: Smoothieboard 2 Progress
I guess I was mistaken about segmentless calculations being in Smoothie edge. I don't remember where I read about that. I suppose it was just in a testing branch. Sorry about that. Their CAN implementation has an extra differential STEP line. The bus can run at either 1 or 8 Mbit/sec, depending on ...

Re: Counterweighted magnetic drivetrain and several other mods for MAX METAL
Made some progress on the effector. I decided to drop the mag-lock idea for now. It's designed for two-or-more-color printing, but will also print fine on single-extrusion systems: 626 Effectors.png The photo doesn't show the LED ring or integrated fan ducts, but they're still there in the models ...

I assume that most of us are hobbyists. I'm wondering if any of you rely on 3D printing as a significant (if not exclusive) source of income. If so, I'd like to know whether you focus on 3D printing things for other people (e.g. 3DHubs) or producing your own products, or some mix thereof, and ...

Re: Infrared cameras?
I have the Pi NoIR camera. It is fairly good. Yes, you would need an IR-pass filter because it will normally only show you visible spectrum light. I don't know how it would perform looking at a 3D printer in a pitch black room.
