Re: Vespula takes flight - Toyguy's Build Log
First print done! Generally successful but, as expected, some issues to sort out. Size was right on and the corners were pretty sharp, so I think the Trick Laser arms were doing their thing. Take a gander at these: In this one, you can see the top isn't completely filled in. [img]http://i243.photobu...

Ok, so what needs to be done to clean up the hot end, etc once a print is done?

Re: Wiring doubts
Your thermistor wiring looks good. Mine is the same way and works great. I also used the provided wire the same way you are proposing - thicker wire to extend the extruder stepper motor and the thinner wire for my PEEK fan and light ring. I ran a separate pair for my hot end. If you're not using a l...

Re: Vespula takes flight - Toyguy's Build Log
A little more progress today, although the holiday and its aftermath are slowing things up a little :) I got through the PID Auto-tuning finally and also worked through the end-stop and height adjustments as well as the Printer Radius setup. I still need to switch it back to EEPROM mode and re-uploa...

Re: Hello from a Longtime 3D printing community lurker.
Orion seems to be the right choice for you since you haven't the time to build it. That is, to my mind, a little unfortunate as you learn a lot about how the machine functions and how to diagnose it by putting it together. As you also found, though, the forum here is vibrant and helpful. One of the ...

Re: Calibration Questions
Yeah, it seems like it shouldn't be possible, but it did trip the breaker. While it was off, I looked for non-working things around the house and it's basically just my room, with my PC, laptop, MAX and a couple phone chargers plugged in plus a pair of fluorescent lights in the basement. That's it. ...

Re: Calibration Questions
Thanks again guys! I've run into a minor snag with the process - the bed autotune is popping the 20A circuit breaker in the house panel :) I don't have a way to measure the current easily, but this reminds me of the post I saw from another member who noted his Onyx was pulling 20A. I wonder if there...

Re: Calibration Questions
Thanks for the input guys. I don't have a thermocouple - guess I should get one. I do have an infrared heat reader for my reptile cage, so I tried that out during the bed Autotune. It was within 3 degrees of what the bed thermistor was saying. I'll check the hot end next time I fire it up. A questio...

Calibration Questions
I started posting some of these in the Build Log but thought I would move them out here just in case there are members who don't read Build Logs :) I'm starting through the calibration process in the Assembly Guide and am generating some questions. Any insight into these would be helpful... 1. When ...

Re: Vespula takes flight - Toyguy's Build Log
First Light! Literally, with the Trick Laser LED Ring :) I finished the last of the wiring tonight - ya know, I'd pay extra for pre-built wiring harnesses! I got my laptop configured with all the software and then plugged in the USB cable to the Rambo. Even with the MAX unplugged, the driver install...

Re: Red ABS problem
Take this with a grain of salt, since my Max isn't printing yet :) I wonder if you have moisture in the filament? That can cause those sorts of bubbles/pockets, as far as I have read. Was the filament in a sealed wrapper? Maybe try sticking it in a sealed up bucket of rice or some other dehydrating ...

In my version of the Guide, this starts on page 35, just above Figure 2-40. Do the bottom first, install the shoes and then do the top.

Re: Vespula takes flight - Toyguy's Build Log
It's actually not Tamiya, it's from Great Planes which is available at Tower Hobbies. It's the quarter inch width, which fits perfectly.

Re: Vespula takes flight - Toyguy's Build Log
While waiting for my hot end RTV to cure, I got to work switching out the delta arms for the Trick Laser arms. I was initially going to do a little comparison testing but after looking at, and feeling, the new arms I decided it just wasn't worth it. The new ones were obviously quite a bit better tha...

Bed Thermistor resistance
Anyone know what the approximate room-temperature resistance for the bed thermistor would be? I installed mine last night and I'm going to meter it from the pads on the outer edge to make sure it isn't shorting against itself or the hole in the bed. Obviously an infinite or zero will be a problem, b...

There is a product for medical imaging called Slicer and it's had a newly released 4.3.1 version, so I am guessing he's got the version number wrong and looking at the wrong product.

Re: My Hot End is not heating up!
Take this with a grain of salt since I'm still building mine, but think basic electronics. Disconnect the hot end wiring from the Rambo and then take your meter and measure the resistance across the 2 resisitors. If it's infinite, you have an open resistor or a bad joint in the wiring. If it's zero,...

Re: Vespula takes flight - Toyguy's Build Log
Big work day today! Got the new top plate on thanks to some fast turn-around by the SeeMe guys! Thanks to a bunch of the pre-work I'd done while waiting, I'm now pretty much done with the mechanical setup. I also got the power supply in with the switch wired up and the Rambo connector attached. Tomo...

Re: Vespula takes flight - Toyguy's Build Log
While I'm still on hold for any major construction while waiting for some parts to arrive, I've still been busy. I got the cheapskates assembled with the Spacer stacks of bearings, ready to go on the towers. I worked on the power supply tonight and that's all set to go. [img]http://i243.photobucket....

Re: 68377 TSLOT SUPPORT
Gene notes this in the manual. Those rounded areas don't impact anything, the fact that they are different is merely cosmetic. Do a dry fit of the components and you'll see what I mean. Mine were like that too.

Re: Vespula takes flight - Toyguy's Build Log
While waiting for some in-transit stuff to arrive, I've been working on tidying up wiring. Gene's suggestion of the waxed lacing cord is an excellent one. I knew about this stuff from my time in the service, but had forgotten about it. Much nicer than those plastic ties with the snagging heads. What...

I don't think they were sitting on much inventory. I ordered a week ago and mine came with the 1.2 Rambo controller so they made the switch pretty quickly, it seems.

Advice needed
I'm just finishing installing and squaring my towers and I am finding it difficult, if not impossible, to get an even gap on the 3 legs at the base. Essentially, when square, the towers have no gap at all on 2 sides and only the slightest on the other. There seems to be no in-out movement available ...

I'm only saying to be mean :D , but I think your machine would look even better if you had painted the heads of your hardware too... they have it in the skate world http://www.mudgehardware.com/ ... You know, just in case you like the idea before you get your whole machine built LOL - no way! Heck,...
