The G540 is a fantastic unit! I use 2 of them on machines I've converted (an X2 mill and a lathe). I wanted to try the low cost option for the H-1 though "just because"!

Re: Idler bearings?
They are standard skate bearings that you can get at a sporting goods shop locally. x x 22 x 7. Here's a link to the options at Boca Bearing. The cheap ones, 8 for $7.99 are more than enough for this application. I use Boca a lot for bearings, their shipping is always reasonable.

Re: Standardization of Non-included hardware
Well, I'm doing exactly that - or at least a recommendation - with the manuals I'm writing. The electronics manual will have more recommendations since no wire, connectors, etc is included with the kit. But this would be a great topic for input into that. Also for input into the operations manual. C...

Single resistor in hot-end?
Has anyone tried using a single resistor in the hot end? Seems that some of the RepRap type of hot-ends ( J Head for instance) use a single resistor. I wonder if that would help moderate the temperature fluctuations of the head a little since there would not be so much power being pumped in so quick...

4 Axis Board - TB6560
After grappling with the 3 Axis Board/EasyStepper for too long, I decided to try one of the Chinese 4 Axis boards. It came in on Friday and I spent some time doing the conversion. I now have lots of torque on my extruder (A axis). I did have to perform the "opto isolator-ectomy with staple jump...

Re: My H-1 Build and Mods
Thanks guys, I updated the link. The original was a tif image and I changed it to a jpg version. It is possible that some browsers may not show tifs? Let me know if you see it now. Make sure to do a page refresh to force it to reload.

Not sure why Lee, I see it and it is coming from a public server. Sometimes firewalls filter images from posts. What do you see?

First Full Print
Here is the 1st full print I made back on 3/8/2012: It was a little ugly because I was experiencing a few problems: 1) I had not made the mods to the 3 Axis Board: removing the 2 diodes and jumping the opto isolators. That introduce...

Michael Hackney here
Hey guys, thanks for creating the forum! Looks great. I am definitely a "forum type" of person! I am going to start a build thread for my machine. EDIT: I forgot to mention: I wrote the H-1 Assembly Manual! And, I am working on the H-1 Electronics Manual and H-1 Operations Manual. cheers, ...
