Re: Who's coming to the Midwest RepRap Fest '14?

I'll be there. If I have time, I would be happy to take a look. In the mean time, can you provide more details about what's going on with your towers that can't be corrected?? Cheers! I may take you up on your offer. I don't think it is anything weird, I just can't seem to get them calibrated by my...

Who's coming to the Midwest RepRap Fest '14?

At this point I am planning on being there Friday evening and Saturday. I believe I will be with the Kalamazoo Maker Guild. I am going to bring my Orion and if I can get it through security my heavily modded "other" printer (but officer, it can't be a rep2, it has a heated build plate...) ...

Re: Amberly Elementary After School Program (Portage, MI)

Some belated updates. The second week of class I had the student peruse Thingiverse to get ideas of things that can be designed and printed and allowed them to pick something for me to print for them (I also had to go over all the first week stuff for my 5th graders who were at camp the week before)...

Re: Simplify3D ver 2.0.0

I can’t say this is a complete review but I can give my experiences as using this slicer over the past couple months. First of all version 2.0 is a huge upgrade over the previous version. The 1.. series was not ready for primetime but now it feels like a finished product. Pros Extremely fast. It is ...

Re: Simplify3D ver 2.0.0

So would you recommend that someone contemplating buying this hold off for a few more revisions? They have a Rostock Max profile which all that needs to be done is edit the print area. I have used it for slicing Orion prints without an issue. Currently this is my go to slicer. I really like to prin...

Re: Simplify3D ver 2.0.0

They have updated their intro video on their homepage (http://www.simplify3d.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and there are quite a few scenes with an Orion! They also have update 2.0.1 out that I haven't tested yet. For as prominent as the Orion was in the video you wo...

Re: Amberly Elementary After School Program (Portage, MI)

My first class on Wednesday went pretty well considering. The schedule for this program has been messed up because of snow days and this weeks class unfortunately didn't include any 5th graders because they were at camp. I will need to redo the intro for them this upcoming week. A few things I picke...

Re: Repetier 091 for Rostock MAX now available

I changed my HORIZONTAL_RADIUS to what I thought it should be, and it sent the head into the tower. Doesn't seem like PRINTER_RADIUS is the same thing. Unless the calculations are totally different. Of course, since I am not yet grasping all of this, I am probably way off. Horizontal_radius is defi...

Re: I'll just drop this here for now

When I first saw this I was thinking lightheartedly to myself that for the midwest reprap fest instead of a build workshop there should be a rebuilt/upgrade workshop for current max owners. But then the gears in my head started turning and I think there is a great opportunity here. So what are peopl...

Re: Printing small details without melting them

I did the same owl a while ago in pla and had the exact same thing on the feathers so I think that is a model issue (in my case I just picked them off, didn't effect the look of the print).

Amberly Elementary After School Program (Portage, MI)

Assuming the snow stops today will be the first session of a 3d print/design class at my daughter's elementary school. It will be for six weeks on Wednesdays for one hour after school. Since I don't have much time with the students this will be more of an introduction. Today I will be showing many e...

Re: Considering a rostock max?

I myself find the openbeam kickstarter intriguing but it is good to remember a few important points. The Rostock max is a real product that can be purchased today, the other ones are merely promises. Take the openbeam one. First they have had major design revisions from what they originally posted a...

Re: New Orion: Level Sequence?

Mortinus- I'm trying to adjust my horizontal radius and I'm not observing a change. Mine is pinning the paper down and no matter if I increase or decrease, the paper is still stuck. Have any ideas? The horizontal radius effects the relative height of the outside radius to the middle, which may push...

I have mine but haven't installed them yet. Were they drop in or did you have to make some adjustments (firmware or otherwise)?

Re: Adjusting Tower Rotation with Alpha A/B/C in EEPROM?

I adjusted the arm length and that didn't seem to do much. I went to check again if my towers were straight and during that process I noticed that my heat plate (unheated) is definitely higher in the center than on the edges, even with a glass build plate on it. I don't know if that is the source of...

Yes, my drawing still shows the older part cooling fan. We put on a really nice 30mm blower for the part cooling fan. Here's the mount: http://repables.com/r/171/ and here's the blower http://seemecnc.com/products/30mm-x-10mm-blower-fan I've purchased the new fans, just need some time to install th...

With that fan mount I found the biggest issue on large prints is hitting the clips holding the glass plate on.

I'm using Herbal Essence, what are you using? You cannot use just any hairspray. My understanding from various forums, and from personal experience, is that only 2 hairsprays work, old school unscented aquanet and garnier fructis extreme hold level 5. I tried using gf level 4 and it didn't work, on...

Also, Try lowering your 'extrusion width' in slic3r, under print settings>advanced. The defaults work 'most of the time', but tweaking those are what can lead to really great improvements lowering? shouldn't you increase extrusion width to get fill lines to touch each other? In one sense the extrus...

Re: print speed?

Note I was in the Makerbot store in NYC, and their current default is a .4mm nozzle printing at 90mm/sec with a .15 layer height. Would love to approach that speed. As a rep2 owner who normally runs at 80mm/sec it's amazing how much not faster it is than 40mm/sec on the deltas. Unless you have a pr...

They don't appear to have those fans in their online store yet, but email them at support@seemecnc.com and I'm sure they can point you where you need to go to buy one. This fan and shroud is now being shipped installed on the new Orion printers as a default option. As an update they are now selling...
