I bought cork dampers and used small rubber and flat washers. Honestly I didn't notice much of a difference. There is less vibration though.

For what it's worth, on another I built overseas, we had some folks make rubber gaskets out of tires. Those seemed to be a little bit more quiet.

I think it is something more basic. If I missed it, have you considered reflashing your EEProm with some base settings? There is a small script in the IDE that will allow you to reset the firmware back to it's base 2560 settings. Use it. Then reload a fresh config. It doesn't make sense that you're ...

So I'm wondering, but is there any advantages to the V6 over the V5 for printing ABS? It seems everyone has been talking about the changes improving the ability to print PLA, however I never print PLA and never intend to so PLA printing ability isn't of any real concern to me, and with the V6's out...

Really though - that would drive me nuts too.

I would sell it if you can't devote the time. Orions print right out of the box - you might have to update the software sometime in the future; however, it would reduce your time investment.

You can probably get $800 for your open box version.

If you have a standard heater block like the E3D and make it screw into a ceramic head piece that's a 1" cylinder with a 1.75mm hole down the center, wouldn't that solve the world's ills? Seems to me, all you would have to worry about is how brittle the ceramic is.
