Imagine 3 spheres, each with the radius equal to the length of the arms of your delta, and the center of each located where the arms meet the carriage when the printer is homed. Their intersection forms a complex surface which would be the physical limits of the extruder movement. It's peaked in the middle and lower at each tower. In general, I believe slicers are normally configured to use the lowest point as the upper limit and therefore end up with a perfect cylinder.

The build volume is basically a cylinder that's 280mm in diameter and ~390mm tall.

Oh but that's more than advertised? (265mm D x 400mm H Print Area). It only miss 10mm at top?

The top is concave (bulged) with the center of the bed being higher then the sides. This is be cause of the head travels lower in Z direction if the head nears the accompanying tower and the skate is already at the upmost height. This is for the same reason Delta's need a Delta Radius setting to get the horizontal movements flat. I never measured this effect, but I guess it is a significant part of the buildplate radius.
I am DeltaCon, I have a delta, my name is Con, I am definitely PRO delta! ;-)

Thanks for the explanation. It's hard to imagine/measure this without having a delta around but I think I understand it to some degree. I understand why it doesn't have the height close to max radius at high Z it's just the numbers I was looking for (or guesstimating).

Though choice to make :p I've been looking at the Folgertech FT-5 also that looks like a nice kit with big build area. Do you guys think it will be more dimensionally correct than the Rostock? This is important since I print mechanical parts and they do need to fit :)

Just placed a order on a Duet Wifi board today also so I got that no matter what printer I decide for. Might drop it off in the flash forge also as that board is driving me nuts having to deal with GPX from the raspi. I did order it with the intentions of using it on the new printer I'm going to buy and I've heard it likes delta's :)
