Windows 8 Unsigned Driver for RAMBo

Win8 has "driver enforcement" enabled by default. So it will not recognize an unsigned USB device.

1. unplug the USB device form your pc or laptop
2. mouse over and bump lower right corner of the windows 8 start screen
3. choose "settings" icon (which is ironically a closed 'open-source' looking gear)
4. choose "change pc settings"
5. choose "General"
6. scroll to the bottom of the screen on the right. Under "Advanced Startup" choose "restart".
7. *please wait* appears for a moment (better than a blue screen)
8. choose "Troubleshoot"
9. choose "Advanced Options"
10. choose "Startup Options"
11. choose "restart"
12. black screen for few seconds
13. blue screen says "Startup Settings" asking to 'press a number to choose from the options below:' (kinda DOS like)
14. press number 7 "disable driver signature enforcement"
15. your computer restarts

at this point you're wondering how this is better...

16. after your computer restarts, choose desktop (we're finally back somewhere sorta familiar)
17. select the "windows explorer icon" (hopefully yours is pinned to the bottom task bar
18. hover over the 'Computer' and RIGHT CLICK
19. choose "Manage"
20. accept this dangerous task by typing in your administrator password to continue
21. hopefully you are now in "computer management" now (which took only a fews seconds to get to in XP and Win7)
22. select "device manager"
23. Plug in RAMBo
24. At this point, if I remember correctly, you accept the "unsigned driver" that windows is trying to reject just as you would have in Win7 or XP.

Piece of cake, right?

Hope this helps,

Thanks to both of you for the write ups.
Or you can do what I do and avoid Windows 8 like the plague.

The RAMBo driver as supplied by Ultimachine/Jonnyr(?) IS signed.

They promise to solve all that with Windoze 10 - yet again.
From what I have seen so far in the tech preview there is just about NO control panel

Is there a need to do this if everything is working fine?

Doesn't the windows 3d builder deal in another format than stl. Windows 10 recognizes the rostock but doesn't allow it to use it to print to. Maybe there is a way I can't find it. You'd have to take the file and convert it then send to the printer. The printers that do work have a specific driver written to convert the X3g files to stl. That at least was what I heard on the 3 d printing today podcast.
