KISSlicer Mesh Error Fix

Post by inventabuild »

I'm opening an stl I got off Thingiverse in KISSlicer and I get the following Mesh Error:

I opened the stl in netfabb and tried the simple netfabb "Extra/Repair part" feature, but KISSlicer still gives me an error on the repaired file.

Any ideas? What's the best way to repair stl's for KISSlicer to use? Thank you.

What you're seeing is a guide to show what each color in the displayed model is. From what I can see in the screen shot, there are no errors present.

That error code message box does not pop up in KISSlicer when I get good print paths coming out of my RMAX.

It is when I opened the stl file of the rectangular vase I mentioned at the beginning of this thread that the error code message box popped up in KISSlicer. It turned out that a corner of the vase looked problematic when I opened the KISSlicer g-code in Repetier (notice the grey in the back corner):

And it looks like that same corner printed incorrectly when I sent the job to the RMAX. The RMAX printed about 6 outer perimeter layers of the vase then went to print an inner layer of the vase with the print head raised significantly off the base layer of the vase resulting in a crooked first layer that did not stick to the base. Notice the back right corner in this pic:

And here you see more layers printed on top of the crooked first inner layer:

It appears KISSlicer was warning me that the first inner layer was going to be problematic, but netfabb did not fix it. I'm wondering what I can do next to fix this problem so I can print this vase correctly. By the way another vase I downloaded from thingiverse also has the same problem in KISSlicer.

Here's a link to the vase on thingiverse. Wondering if anyone else can print it in KISSlicer w/out any problems?

When I tried to print these vases in Slic3r they printed correctly, but the quality sucked; hence I'd like to get it right in KISSlicer. Thank you.

Maybe my KISSlicer settings are wrong? Here's my KISSlicer / Style Settings for this job:

According to PenskeGuy and Sublime on the KISSlicer forum I found out the following two things:

1. The current release version of KISS is showing an edge on a degenerate tri in my vase stl file which I got from thingiverse; however a newer beta KISS does not show this edge which means Johnathan has relaxed the mesh analysis function in the newer unreleased beta version. In other words KISS is showing the stl is in need of repair, but it should not (or does not need to) be indicating this.

2. "The actual print issue is a result of the use of vase mode. Since it was in vase mode it did not print a top surface to the bottom of the vase (trying to make a solid into a vase as intended) so the walls had nothing to print on top of. If you set it to an infill mode or even hollow it will print a lot better."

Well I set Infill to 2.5% and like magic the inner layer of the vase printed beautifully. Waiting till the print is complete before claiming victory. Will try the Infill / hollow setting next.

This is getting fun...

I can declare victory on this vase using Infill Hollow in KISSlicer:

Interestingly, when I tried to do Infill 2.5% I got some separation of the loops in the wall of the vase:

For both prints: J-head @ 190, bed @ 60 printed on Elmer's glue stick on glass. The part pops off the Elmer's glue after everything cools down. Also, even though Kisslicer indicated there was an error in the stl it sliced the part fine.
