Super quick LED mod for Rostock

Post by Aurora900 »

So I wanted to add LEDs so I could see the prints better since all the lighting I have is high hats... So I get a big shadow on the bed. And I wanted to see what the quickest laziest way to go about it was...

I literally just took 3 3mm LEDs and soldered the leads together in the shape of a triangle (in series), covered the leads with kapton, and stuck it on top of the hot end mounting plate. There's a couple things casting some shadows from there, so I'm going to move them somewhere else but a lot of the light is getting to the print so it's okay for now. I wired them in parallel with the peek fan. I haven't added it yet, since I was just testing the concept for now, but I will also be putting a 100ohm resistor in series with the LEDs to drop the 12v down to an appropriate level. Each LED can take 3 to 3.4v (and uses 20ma), so I'm over-driving them right now, but with the 100ohm resistor they will each get 3.4. If you want to copy this and have the same forward voltage and amperage, you can use anything between 100ohm and 150 ohm to stay within the 3 to 3.4v spec. (150 gives them 3v each)
