Getting the most from your ezStruder

A note to thank JFettig for getting the geared motor adapter plates so quickly.
I also plan on changing the spool holder to the one that has just been posted to Thingiverse.

I'm not sure what kind of pull you have with the good folks at SeeMeCNC, but maybe you could suggest to them the option of putting in the following into their kits:

- 608-ZZ or 608-2Z Bearings x4
- M8 x 1.25 x 190mm Threaded Rod x1
- M8 x 1.25 Nylon-Insert Locknut x1
- M8 Washer x1
- The links to the above .STL files or something similar in the excellent manual.[/list]

For the sake of a few extra dollars (these parts are fairly inexpensive) it would allow the user to "upgrade" the just useable Spool Holder to something much better after completion of their build.

Like they already do with the Peek Fan Housing.

I know things are done with cost in mind, but I'm sure most people who given the option, would gladly absorb the cost of some bearings, a 190mm rod, plus nut & washer.

It's one of the first "upgrades" most people do to their machines.

Plus... Most people love the idea of purchasing "things" all from one place at one time. Why not include something like this right within the kit?

What did u guys set your steps per mm to with the 5.18:1 geared stepper? I tried 478.6 (stock 92.4*5.18), but it's not perfect. Finetuning could take a while

I used 466.00 as a starting point, within the "config" file for the SmoothieBoard and it was pretty bang on... For PLA that is. It will vary slightly from filament type to filament type, and even manufacture.

You should "calibrate" your extruder/extrusion properly. It doesn't take very much work at all to do this.

Just extrude say 100mm of filament through the extruder, measure it, and adjust the number in your "config" or firmware.

You know you can print one too. I ran all my geared stepper ezStruders with a printed adapter with no problems whatsoever.

You are regrettably correct. Started with a small cartesian kit and now have 2 cartesians and 3 Rostock Max.
Can't help myself, I love to build them. I just hope they don't have babies.
