While doing some maintenance on our new V2 I had an idea. I am consistently worried that the wire bundle for the hot end could eventually fray or chafe wires where they pass through the lower plate of the top end. Would it be possible to use something like a D-Sub 15 connector ala 3M™ D Sub Plug to make a more rigid connection?

I don't know that connector, but if it helps... I'm using XT60 for the hot end and JST for everything else.
They are still working great.

You can use a DSub connector, the pins are rated for about 1A, so you'd want to use several lines for the heater power.

Whats the amperage for the heater power? I would be possible to get a amphenol type connector with larger pins to handle the amperage for the hot end.

The amperage for a hotend with a 40 watt cartridge is approximately 3.3 amps
Using the 6.8 ohm resistors would result in an amperage of approximately 3.5 amps
The above figures assume a 12 Volt power supply and the actual current used real time
would vary because of temperature used and the values of PID tuning.

It's between 3 and 4A, so you'd run 4 wires from the connector. FWIW this is exactly what NopHead does on the Mendel 90.
I personally use Aviation Plug's like this

I run one per hotend and an additional one for fans.

Polygonhell, those connectors would be great and they won't disconnect until you want them to.
