V3 Power Consumption Measurement

Being the nerd I am, I measured the power consumption of my new V3 using a Killawatt meter. Power factor was about 0.6 for the V3 when printing.

10 watts idle, no heat, stepper motors released
32.5 watts idle, no heat, stepper motors active
156 watts idle, preheating the bed only
205 watts idle, preheating the nozzle and bed from cold (maximum power draw I ever saw)

160-180 watts when printing ABS at 250C HE, 75C bed

Just an FYI if anyone was curious what the electricity costs....

That depends largely on the Graphics card you use. With embedded graphics I don't think a PC eats more than about 50 Watts averaged.
But below 200 Watts is pretty decent. My laserprinter peaks 700 Watts when the fuser is heating ;-)

You do now Gene, I never needed more than embedded graphics. But I am certainly not a gamer (at all). I want to explore some 3d design programs in the near future, but I doubt that modern CPU's fall short for that. Modern GPU's are quite capable, and energy efficient ;-)

Doing CAD work with a 770, I draw ~470 (Including 2 screens) watts on a render. On idle, around 250W (A lot of that is disk). Then again, I'm also using a K series I7 of a somewhat older vintage, rather than the newest ones. Now, a new Pascal based card is a lot lighter. the 1080 is somewhere around 120W total for the card, while being much much faster than my 770. Now, if we start including AMD cards, or CPU's, power consumption starts looking different, with the new RX 480 (Which many benchmarks show neck and neck with the 1070 and sometimes rising to 1080 levels), pulling 150, and it's a much more efficient card than their earlier generations.

More on topic, I measured ~230W for my V2 (with the LED lights, and more than a few other things). Sans heated bed, it was somewhere around 100W (As one would expect given the bed is rated to draw ~10A at 12V, meaning 120W). So even with some heft mods, unless you add new heaters, you're not increasing power draw substantially.

To add to confusion:
I have a V2 with 600Watt Delta Electronics PSU 25A (that finally works great!). Added a permanent 12cm fan to the base (V3 has that by design?) And SSR and 12V stepdown for the Rambo. On 230V Mains

Barely 6 Watts idle, not heating anything
About 550 Watts idle, preheating the bed only
About 575 Watts idle, preheating the nozzle and bed from cold

Haven't tried, but I doubt that running the steppers adds a lot to that. Difficult to try, because the bed heats up so quickly that I haven't got time to start a print and measure anything on the "killawatt" before deadtime kicks in and triggers non-heat moments for the bed ;-) I am quite sure my PC does not draw that much power though... Must see if I can get an average out of this powermeter, it is not a killawatt because we can't get these for European mains.
