Where are you buying your filament?

Post by Chris Muncy »

I've purchased from http://www.3dprinterstuff.com and http://www.ultimachine.com.
3dprinterstuff seems to max out at $18.50 for shipping where at Ultimachine you could go bankrupt on shipping charges.

Anyone ordering from anywhere else?

I ordered my first batch from Makerbot as I was having a hard time finding 1.75mm stuff. I just ordered a few more spools from ProtoParadigm (protoparadigm.com) as they seem to have more choices in stock and are only a couple hundred miles away. Ordered 3 1kg spools and some glow in the dark for the kids. Shipping was $11.47. Should have been here today but I don't see the that the package has hit UPS yet... might have to re-consider ordering from them again (ordered Sunday night).

I will let you know when the goods show up.

Ultimachine: $21 per pound - $46 per kg - outrageous shipping
3d Printer Stuff: $18 per pound - $35 per 2 pounds - shipping seems to cap at $18.50 even when having 4 spools in your cart.
Protoparadigm: $42 per kg - Less than $19 to ship to me in Texas for 4 spools
3d Printer Supplies on Amazon $35 per kg - $6.00 to ship to Texas

Just found this link that does an automatic price compare for several sites in several countries. Shipping isn't show so you will have to actually visit the site so see the full price.

Any others?

Sent the guys at Protoparadigm a message about my order not shipping yet. I guess UPS didn't stop for their pickup yesterday. Good news is they responded to e-mail quickly and appologized when it was not their fault. I will report back when the order arrives (maybe tomorrow, just has to come over the hills is all).

I am in the UK.

So far I have used 1.75mm PLA from faberdashery.co.uk. Lots of colours but expensive compared to other parts of the world.

I have just ordered 1kg of ABS from http://www.coolcomponents.co.uk/catalog ... 89_98.html for my first foray into printing with ABS.

I have also asked for a quote for PLA from http://www.nanoforce.co.uk. They don't have stock at the moment but are quoting approx 30UKP/kg I presume before VAT and shipping.

I bought some of the gold PLA from faberdashery and had it shipped to the US. THe shipping wasn't too bad but that GOLD colored PLA is spectacular. You guys are lucky to have them so close. They have some great colors.

cheers,
Michael

Got my goods from Protoparadigm. All is good, just a UPS ascrew-up is all. The glow in the dark ABS is killer! I turned the lights off while it was printing and the heat from the extruder caused the material to glow coming out. The PLA on the other hand was well, a fricken nightmare... I'm going to make a post on my PLA experience.

There is a guy in Kansas City selling plastic for pretty good prices. 1KG of 1.75mm (ABS or PLA) is $35. Shipping is $10.50. I havn't used any of his plastic but the guys at CCCKC say it is good stuff.

Unfortunately, like most vendors buy3dink is mostly out of stock on everything.

3DPrinterStuff is where John and Steve get their filament and I've been ordering from them too. They seem to always have what I want in stock and a good selection of colors too.

Cheers,
Michael

+1 for 3DPrinterStuff and UltiMachine.

I am very satisfied with the quality of ABS 1.75mm filament from both.

Im in Australia and get my filament from bilbycnc.com.au
I have bought a couple of packs of the mixed 1kg 1.75mm filament. Cost about $65AUD including postage, not too bad. Its good as the colours do last a while and I have a selection. If I run out of one colour, I will just order another mixed bag and make sure they pick one with the colour I need, and I also get new colours. Need to find some grey 1.75 though, apparently its pretty hard to get.
