Here's how to stop warping

Post by PJgearhead »

Guys just thought I would post how significant an improvement that a heated print bed and Kapton tape make to almost completely eliminate warping.
I run my heated bed at about 90 degrees under a sheet of glass, which is then taped up with Kapton tape.
Printing with the heated glass alone, the prints did not stick well, but with the addition of Kapton, they stick like glue.
I can't even get the printed model unstuck from the tape after a print, until about 10minutes later after the glass has cooled a little and the model has microscopically shrunk, which then causes it to unstick itself.
Another thing I do which seems to help, is to move Z axis down until the tip just hits the bed, then set that at zero. I have read of others using business card thickness, etc... but I just set the nozzle to zero when its touching the bed, then Slic3r moves up .3mm for the first layer and starts printing. I also set the first layer to print at .4 normal speed.
