Motor over heating

As I wait for a response on this thread http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=9161 regarding my firmware issues I was wondering if there is another reason my y stepper motor is overheating.

I checked the connections and even placed a new connector on the stepper.
I replaced the stepper.

Can my Rambo be bad?
I am still waiting to adjust voltage and disable the endstop check in firmware but cannot get anywhere with that eeprom issue

As I mentioned in my response to you in the other thread , yes the Rambo could be bad with a corrupted boot loader.
They can be repaired by UltiMachine for a minimal cost.

Or, if you have other arduino's or a desire to get into them, bootloaders can be burned on with standard ISP programmers (20$ for the arduino name brand), or another Arduino board. I believe Ultimachine recommends the standard ATmega bootloader, but I'd have to check.

Would the USBtinyISP AVR Programmer Kit (USB SpokePOV Dongle) - v2.0
from Adafruit support the bootloader on the Rambo card or is there a better choice?

From the a fellow on the video below, the USBtiny doesn't work. Keep in mind that you have to dismount the LCD to get at the pins (usually they are used for the LCD), and make sure you have the proper programmer selected for what you're using. Another thing is that you can use the programmer to upload firmware without a boot-loader at all, so that you can use that extra small bit of memory. Make sure you get a 2560 compatible programmer. The Arduino USB http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Ard ... aQodgyMBqw should be easily able to do it. Check Ultimachine's github for their latest bootloader and instructions, https://github.com/ultimachine/RAMBo/tr ... ootloaders" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, which appears to just say to use a standard arduino bootloader.

I would suggest that you check the manufacturer of the stepper motor. The power settings are very different and it can cause overheating. Those settings are in firmware but not eeprom, as far as I know. You have to get into your Repetier (or alternative) to access those command lines. I reduced the settings from 155 to 150 on mine and they cooled off. 155, btw is the called-for setting. I detuned it, and it seems to help.
