Rostock Max E3d V6 (or knock off)

Post by prussiap »

Hey Guys,
I got an E3D from a friend but after I installed it how I thought it should be (following a matterhacker guide and some of my own hacking) I found out that it may be a knock off. This is one of the links:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/3D-Print ... 23157.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
these cartridge heater it was i think also is part of it:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/3D-Print ... 03090.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In any case I have no clue how to modify the Repetier/rostock firmware confighuration.h and re-flash for the new goodies. I thought I did anyway with the right values.
I changed this setting to conform to E3d:
#define EXT0_TEMPSENSOR_TYPE 8
But I've used 1 as well I think it's a 100k NTC

No idea how to change the cartridge heater though

In any case I now get def /def for temp of both hot end and heated bed (haven't made changed on hteated bed) and the repetier arduino sketches i downloaded fresh from Seemecnc.

Screen on machine with defs:

and hot end pics:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/fdc02e10lmdhi ... 5.jpg?dl=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

https://www.dropbox.com/s/l55h05sbu6doo ... 4.jpg?dl=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
https://www.dropbox.com/s/nbz2jsujt0p6b ... 7.jpg?dl=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
https://www.dropbox.com/s/dhgfotzt4ljf8 ... 9.jpg?dl=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Help appreciated as I'd like to get my baby back up and running. It's been quite a few months at this point.. I know I'll have to run the Auto Tune after and put in my pid settings like first time i set everything up but otherwise getting these values for heated bed, cartridge and temp sensors should do the trick?

Def means you have either a short or open connection on one of the thermistors.
You can check which one pretty easily with a meter. You must disconnect the thermistor from the board to check the resistance.
Both thermistors should be in the 100KOhm range at room temperature if working correctly.

Hi,
Hmm so even the heated bed? I didn't even touch that part. As for testing you mean unplug the thermistor and test just between thermistor for resistance? I shouldn't check the cable on the printer side for resistance?

Finally should you still get def showing if you unplug the thermistor for hot end? Even saying there is a short ?

Thanks,

It could be either thermistor, most likely it's the one from the hotend, both will display def if either one is shorted or open circuit.
unplug the thermistor cable from the board (after turning it off) and measure the resistance at the wires that connect to the board, they should be 100KOhms give or take 20KOhms depending on the thermistor and your room temperature.
Yes you will get def if the thermistor is not connected because that is by definition an open circuit.
