Converting .stl file to a g file

Post by BristolDon »

I'm kind of a newbie, so this may be an easy fix. I've downloaded several .stl files off different websites and had no problem converting them to a g file with my Sli3er program. When a friend gave me an .stl file to print for him, apparently my Sli3er couldn't read it. It turned it into a 6KB file and when loaded onto my printer it would take 13 seconds to print. Is there some sort of prep that needs to be done before converting to g code.

There are some possibilities. One big one is if it's a fairly thin part saved in inches, when Slic3r interprets those dimensions in mm, there are no areas thick enough that they should be printed. Also see if Slic3r says the part is manifold in the lower right corner.

That is a solid possibly. My friend prefers inches. I will check.

Open it up in matter control, then you can see the size of it, and if there is a problem with it.
When on mobile I am brief and may be perceived as an arsl.
