Pillowing vs over extrusion
Hi,
I have this print I am trying to print and I am having some issues with the top layer.
I'm sure part of my issue is pillowing.. But I increased the top layers to 10, and the top surface is still pretty rough.
Do you think this is due to pillowing or over extrusion? My other prints that don't have huge flat tops seem ok....
I'm not running any cooling currently, but that will change soon.

Re: Pillowing vs over extrusion
Your last line of "not running any cooling" should be your magic bullet.
Cooling is essential to let the plastic bridge properly on top layers. Once you have proper cooling, try it once more with between 3 and 5 top layers.

If at first you don't succeed, you're doing something wrong. Try again, and if it fails again, try once more. Through trial and error, one can be the first to accomplish something great.

In some cases, cooling with abs can be a good thing. If you want to try, you can lower your printing temps a bit.

Agree, I do use cooling fans for ABS. Mostly at 20% fan speed, for bridges, overhangs and last layers like yours with a lot of detail.
For structural parts is not recommended as you can have some delamination.
Also, polish the tip of your nozzle a bit.

Polishing the tip of your nozzle can help to prevent build-up, and promotes a happier printing mind-set.joe wrote:I polish the tip of my nozzle as often as possible.Tincho85 wrote: Also, polish the tip of your nozzle a bit.
