Couldn't keep it aligned and figured it out

Post by ZipGun »

Went to install the replacement E3D socks that I finally ordered. It had approximately 20km of filament run through this effector plate. Most of the time it had a silicone sock.

Aw... I'am using the same platform since last week, in ABS. So I better prepare myself ;-)
PETG is better for high temps?

I usually print it about PETG @ 240-245 and abs about 225. it would seem to be. Here is a good read.

Nice write down, thanks for the link. I guess I MUST have a spool of clear PETG sometime soon! ;-)

I designed the original part (this is a remix for the ball-socket arms) and have been using an ABS one for a long-long time. I've never seen melting and burning like this on mine. What temps were you printing at?

My experience has been that PETG has inferior temperature resistance compared to ABS. I melted a PETG dashcam mount when I left it up in the summer sun. Its ABS replacements have not met the same fate.

I believe PETG has a lousy UV resistance, maybe that's why it is bending.

In regards to the effector: I have been printing about 20 hours on it, and I do not see any burning or deforming whatsoever. And I was printing ABS, so no fans running ;-). Nut I guess having the E3D sock over the heatblock helps a lot. It prevents air going over the nozzle, but also works to prevent heat leaking to the effector. My effector was printed in white ABS. But I guess it would look awesome to have it in clear PETG ;-)

My efector is made from PLA. I never go higher than 225º and it never melts or deforms.

This was after appx. 20000m of filament. Most types of filament has been through this printer at one time or another but its usually abs. The effector shown originally had capton tape on the inside (closest to the heater-block) until it came off. The latest Petg version is showing a slight bit of deformation after 4-5 spools of abs.
