ERIS - Clicking Sound, No Filament Coming Out, Unload Doesn't Work :(

Post by Red Sand »

My ERIS is totally messed up - again - this is incredibly frustrating as I am on vacation for four more days and I really wanted to finish a small project before I have to go back to work

I replaced the hotend - seemed easy enough - I made sure the tube guiding the filament was seated into the bottom of the hotend

Just before starting this print I opened a bag containing a small spool of PLA from SeeMeCNC

I loaded the PLA using the "LOAD FILAMENT" program

I began printing - all seemed good except for that dang "clicking" sound from the EZR Struder

After about two minutes of printing the part, I noticed there was no more filament coming out - nothing - zero - the first layer was about 60% printed then no more filament came out after that

And also, when I run the "UNLOAD FILAMENT" program the filament doesn't come out - the hotend heats up, the EZR Struder wheel rotates slowly as if pushing filament into the hotend, then the EZR Struder wheel spins quickly to remove the filament but the filament doesn't move - the filament remains stuck in the tube between the hotend and the EZR Struder

So, I have two questions:

#1 - How do I get the filament out?

#2 - Do I need to get a new EZR Struder &/or stepper for the EZR Struder?

Thank you
:(

The extruder is making a clicking noise because the hot end is jammed. The most common cause of jams that I've seen is improper retract settings or too low a temperature.

The extruder has likely carved a groove in the filament, thus can't pull it out. Heat up the hot end to around 220C and pull the fliament out by hand while holding down the release lever on the EZR.

I've had to trim the end of the ptfe back a little bit so that the connector would have fresh material to bite into, otherwise I would have a hockey puck form causing my jam. I use a heat break from my V2 hotend, and a razor blade to trim the tube square so it seals.

Thank you geneb & Mac The Knife!

I will make an effort to do this and get this thing up and running - when it works, it really does a great job

I realize the ERIS has been discontinued however, is there any possibility of obtaining an ERIS build document?

Thanks again!

Maybe I should take up another hobby . . . having the patience and understanding required to make these machines work well doesn't come naturally for me . . .

But I do appreciate the help and suggestions

When I load the filament you can see the filament going from ~1 inch beyond the EZR Struder to inside the hot end . . . then the clicking sound at the EZR Struder . . . and no melted filament comes out of the hot end - nothing, not even a tiny bit

I checked the connector at the hot end - seems good, securely plugged-in

This is a brand new hotend - any suggestion or ideas why my ERIS is not working?

Thank you

The clicking sound is called "skipping". It's what the extruder does when it can't feed filament.

Is the hot end set to the correct temperature for the filament you're using?

Yes - 220 degrees - using PLA from SeeMeCNC

I'm sure there is a way to resolve this but I'm stumped

Thank you

What happens when you hand-feed filament through the system?
