Printer pausing in the middle of a build

Post by MashinoDesign »

Hi Everyone,

I've been having some issues with my prints pausing in the middle of a build. This has happened when I slice a file using Slic3r and Cura. I am running the printer using a laptop. I've read that some of the default power settings on laptops have USB ports going to sleep after a while. Could that be a possible cause of my issues? I changed my settings and am running a build now to test it out. Anyone have any experience with this issue or any input? The odd thing is that I've had some longer builds run over night without any issues, but then I've had some pause while I was sitting right next to the machine.

Thanks in advance for your input,
Tom

I had a similar problem at one point. I just set my laptop to not sleep the HW (just the display) and the problem went away.

Hopefully it is as simple as dpmacri described in the above thread but if not what you are describing is known as the "repetier bug" and is a documented problem on this forum. Some have tried setting the layer height in the slicer to an odd size such as if you were using a 2mm height you would change it to 2.1. There is no known fix for it yet that I am aware of and the latest version of Repetier has not been out very long but they claim the paused printing problem has been fixed in the very latest version .91 Under the Orion subforum there is the latest upgrade of Repetier for the Orion but the decision to upgrade should not be taken lightly, you may end up having to do a complete calibration of your printer after you upgrade.
You are using a laptop and there are numerous power settings that need to turned off or adjusted in Control Panel. You don't the want laptop going to sleep, hibernating, turning off the hard disk, etc. Here are two links that discuss the pausing you are experiencing:
http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?t=2542&p=18918" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=2144" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
See if anything in those threads have anything in common to the problems you are experiencing.
