Orion Hot end very slow to heat up

My Orion Hot end is very slow to heat up. I looked and the hot end and see the silicone is cracked and I can see the resistor is loose. Is it OK to remove the resistors and repack with the rtv silicone? Or are the resistors fried. It slowly will creep up to 170 - 180 and stay there. I checked the rambo connection and they are tight. I have about 800 hours on it now.

Thanks for any help

if it is only getting up to that temp, one of the two resistors is dead... you can test the resistance with a multimeter, if the combined resistors is over 4ohms, one of them is dead

we do carry the heating reistors at http://seemecnc.com/collections/parts-a ... g-resistor" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
we do not carry the heating cartridges though. There are people who have used a 40 watt heating cartridge here on the forums, I have not personally so cannot comment about them.

I've had that problem with my Orion. Both resistors were cracked. I've since installed a 12v 40W heat cartridge. Even though it's using the same power it's a lot faster to heat up and once the PID were readjusted the temperature is also more stable.
While you're at it you may want to order a screw in thermistor. That way you wont have to deal with silicone rtv.

Thanks for the reply Guanu and Popolz. Already ordered from seeme cnc. Where would I find the 40watt cartridge? I'll keep one of those on hand.

Thanks
