Ran into snag during build (Rostock Max V2).

Post by ThumbtacksHurt »

Alright, first 3D printer. I'm following the instructions the best I can. On pages 34-36 it says to cut the wires to the 8 pin connector for the heater bed. No problem. Then it says to cut the wires to the 4 pin connector to power the RAMBo board. Problem. The power supply doesn't have one. What should I do from here? I have 6 SATA connectors, 2 molex, 2 4-pin mini-molex connectors, and the 8 pin, in addition to the 24-pin mobo connector.

If this is the stock power supply, then it is a single rail for 12V. Just pick any 12V cable - won't matter which connecter it goes to. E.g. one of the SATA 12V wires would do fine.

Thanks for your reply.

You're probably right. I don't really know enough about the power, I'm just familiar with the connectors. I wasn't sure how much runs through the wires on each connector, or if they're all the same. I also don't know if I were to pick one of the SATA lines and used the last one in the series, if the other connectors would interfere with the build in tight spaces.

I called it a night not long after posting the above. I'll reach out to them to be sure I don't have any issues with the above.

What power supply did you get with the kit? I've NEVER seen a modern ATX power supply without one of those four pin connectors.

I know. It's bizarre. That's why I posted the pic. It's kind of hard to tell, but if you zoom in you can see the 8 pin, but the 4 pin... nothing. I'm working right now, so I can't grab it to check the type.

modern pc power supplies have an 8 pin plug, that if you look carefully split in half, making the old style 4 plug. any of these yellow wires are 12 volts.
