My first decent print: A keck clamp
My first decent print: A keck clamp
So this was the first thing I printed that not only came out awesome, but is functional too. For those who might not know, a keck clamp is used for securing glass on glass joints on glassware. I'm very surprised that the auto-generated support material was perfect and came off fairly easily with the help of a knife.
The bottom part of the vertical loops came out a bit ugly... but I haven't figured out how to improve that kind of feature yet. Any tips would be great.

Here's a few more images of it:

Re: My first decent print: A keck clamp
So... you're making a bong?
Nice prints. As for the overhang issue... I think you win the lottery if you figure out how to get them perfect. Temperature, speed, accuracy, etc...

And come on... this is a legitimate part of a science lab... for.... science stuff. They are science clamps. They clamp science.
No but seriously, I have a friend who is a chemist.

I'm not sure I get the reference, unless you're referring to Fringe, which if you are... damn that's an obscure reference, and an awesome reference at the same time. (It's up there as one of my favorite series)geneb wrote:Say hi to Walter for me!

Re: My first decent print: A keck clamp
In retrospect, you're referencing breaking bad arent you... lol, i've only seen a few episodes so i didn't think of that first. Why do people named walter tend to make drugs? Weird... lol
Re: My first decent print: A keck clamp
Breaking Bad is worth binge-watching. It's on Neflix streaming if you've got that, or The Pirate Bay if you don't.
Nice looking clamp though. One thing to keep in mind - the more you use the printer, the better you'll get at using it. 3D printers of this type are a lot like Electric Guitars. You get out of them what you put into them.

Re: My first decent print: A keck clamp
I got the reference, gene, and I thought it was funny.
DavidF, the clamp is for glassware in a laboratory environment... and also used in holding bongs together when made in multiple glass pieces. The reference to "Walter" is in regards to Aurora's "chemist friend" comment. Walter White is a chemist and drug manufacturer from the TV show breaking bad.
And I just realized the rostock would be great for printing a bong, with the height and all... not that I would have any use for one.

Re: My first decent print: A keck clamp
Is that an Ibanez? I wanted one sooooo bad when I was younger... that digital camo paint is AWESOME.

Re: My first decent print: A keck clamp
A pick might not be a good choice due to the material, but a spring-loaded pick magazine would just kick ass. You could make it look like a huge PEZ dispenser.

Re: My first decent print: A keck clamp
Yes, Ibanez. One of my 3 ibanez guitars haha. I also have a shitty gio model and an acoustic/electric from the exotic wood series... i forget the actual model, I think EW20ASE (based on the google images coming up it looks right). I also have a crappy no name bass that my boyfriend gave me (works well enough to just lay down simple bass lines for when I mess around with recording stuff) and a classical acoustic from Takamine. The Takamine was my mothers originally and was made in the 70s... it has a beautiful sound.bot wrote:Is that an Ibanez? I have picks made out of all kinds of stuff, including brass and copper. Different materials get some interesting sounds and I think ABS should be strong enough to hold up for at least one session... And the Takamine won't tear it up as much because it's nylon string, not steel.geneb wrote:A pick might not be a good choice due to the material, but a spring-loaded pick magazine would just kick ass.
