I definitely want to do FPV, yep.
Didn't pick the camera/gimbal, etc yet but they'll clip on to the same carbon rails as the landing gear.

Jim,
I am interest in how you cast you vibration isolator from RTV. Would you share the .stl for the molds?

Re: 3D Printed QuadCopter frame with Carbon Fiber arms
Jim, I've been in to quads for a few years now and have a couple highly mod'd flyers. What props did you "jettison" the blades on(size, pitch), I thought I saw that you were running 1200KV motors, so that should put you in the 8-10" Prop class...
When you feel like stepping up to a really nice Open Source flight controller check out the Open Pilot (CC3D or Atom are your basic FC's, the REVO is with GPS and Autonomous flight). I fly for the Flight Test Team and help with development for the project when I can(a lot less since getting my 3D Printer).
Anyways, feel free to hit me up if you have any questions and Keep on Buildin!

The files are up on Repables, and there's an attempt at instructions.nitewatchman wrote:I am interest in how you cast you vibration isolator from RTV. Would you share the .stl for the molds?

Let me know if you want me to try and export the files in a different format.
I'd redesign it a touch if I was doing it again, but it definitely worked.

Was this the one I saw at the MRRF and has it been test flown yet?

Re: 3D Printed QuadCopter frame with Carbon Fiber arms
That is a fairly large quad copter and it will be great when you get out all of the bugs and having soaring through the air and then landing.Jimustanguitar wrote:Yep, that's the one that was on my table.Eaglezsoar wrote:Was this the one I saw at the MRRF and has it been test flown yet?
It flew for a short timeThe semi-soft landing of the initial test flight broke the landing gear, and I've been printing too many production jobs to stop and tinker with a new design yet. That's actually my plan for the MakerHive later tonight, get it done and in the air again. I'll be able to do a much more in depth test flight after I'm not banging a 3Ah battery on the ground to land
The best to you getting this project to be ideal.

Re: 3D Printed QuadCopter frame with Carbon Fiber arms
What props are those that broke? That's pretty bad to have them go before they were put under load. But better that than while you're up high.
You can get some decent props for a good price that won't bust. HQProps or APC will last but are still good enough fkr learning on.
Is this 650mm opposite motor to motor?

I originally bought cheapo ones from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00S0I ... UTF8&psc=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Motopreserve wrote:What props are those that broke? I think they were slow fly props for a gear reduction quad, but they didn't say that anywhere. I ended up buying solid plastic (non-composite ones) from getfpv, and they've been working like a charm.
650 diagonal, yep. It's a big one.Motopreserve wrote:Is this 650mm opposite motor to motor?

Re: 3D Printed QuadCopter frame with Carbon Fiber arms
I've done a lot of work since I last checked in. It's flying extremely well now, and I've added a lot of new pictures to the Imgur album. http://imgur.com/a/saqbM" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I also did a quick write-up on Wevolver that's currently featured on the front page! https://www.wevolver.com/jim.spencer/3d ... r-overview" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I'm writing up an Instructable now. Hopefully I can finish it and have it submitted in time to enter their "Things that fly" contest that ends on Monday. I'll post that link when I publish it (and beg you to vote for me
in the contest)

Excellent work. I like that you've done everything yourself from the ground up. The thing looks great. What's the expected range with the transmitter and battery combo?
Re: 3D Printed QuadCopter frame with Carbon Fiber arms
That looks so awesome! Much cleaner than mine. I crashed my Super-H 600 from Hobbyking, so I used most of the parts and printed out a new body from Thingiverse. My first good flight was today, but it was still touchier (is that a word) than my old one. More dialing in to do.

You can adjust some of that out with your flight controller.CRPerryJr wrote:That looks so awesome! Much cleaner than mine. Are the prop colors strictly for orientation? (I didn't know GWS made green slow-fly props!)

Yep, it's so I can keep my bearings. I've also got some LED lights that I'll install for this purpose, but that's still on the to-do list.geneb wrote:Are the prop colors strictly for orientation? (I didn't know GWS made green slow-fly props!)
Re: 3D Printed QuadCopter frame with Carbon Fiber arms
Thanks for the links! My quad has the old APM 2.5 on it, and the autotune feature helped clean up alot of the twiching. The only issue I have now is on descent. It seems to want to fall like a rock for about a second, then catch itself. Makes for some heartstopping "Return to Land" events!Jimustanguitar wrote:You can adjust some of that out with your flight controller.CRPerryJr wrote:That looks so awesome! Much cleaner than mine.
