New Layer Fan design.

Post by KAS »

Just a quick & simple layer fan mount I'm trying. Looking for a solution that wouldn't interfere JFettig's enclosure. Inspiration came from the ATOM 2.0.

Looks great! I've been thinking about something similar, but I might just like your design better :)

Why 5v though?

I haven't found a 12v version. I've been running one at 12v for about 3 weeks with no issues. That said, I have no idea on reliability.
With the 3 fans, I've been running it as 50% which is measuring 6v on the meter.

Nice find on the fan but I have a question on the mounting.
It looks like you are using zip ties to hold the fans, is this correct?

I guess that picture is deceiving. I used the zip ties to hold the wire from the fan out of the way. Each mount is held in place with a 1/2" screw through the top of the effector.

It sure is, just wish I could figure out a way to match it with our current effector.

Thanks for the better picture clearly showing the screws holding the mounts.
Very nice!

Love it! Also run that enclosure and have just been installing the fan and then shrinking my bed in the slicer to make sure i dont collide with the walls. Will need to look into ordering these fans.

I'm gonna try this out. I'll need to modify it for the fans from seemecnc though, since I picked up 2 more of those. (wished I would have known about these panasonic ones for 4 bucks!) Quick question about your wiring. Did you solder them all to the same layer fan wire?

Actually KAS, before I dive in too deep with this, how amazing has it been having triple cooling action?

I went ahead and modified the file to fit the stock 30mm blower from Seeme. Here is the file in case anyone wants to give it a go. It's a nice fit.

I didn't have much printing time on the setup above as I switched my effector to the metal one at trick laser. I have to redesign the mount to match the different tabs on that effector.

50% on the fan speed gives the +6v to the fan although I've been running one at +12v for a few weeks without issue. Three fans at +12v is a crazy amount of air, if you have the angle off a tad you can over-cool the hotend and never reach printing temps.

Hey KAS, I finally bought some. Got them used from a local store.
They are surprisingly quiet, I thought they will be louder.

Thinkpad 380 series laptops use them as a cooler. All 3 of them look the same but they are slightly different.
They are 35x35x6mm aprox

2º) UDQFC3E11 - 0.15A - 7217
3º) UDQFC3E14 - 0.09A - 7X29

They do sell them as the same item. I tested them and seem to have very similar air flows.

That's all for now, If I do install them I will keep you guys posted.

I am REALLY excited that you posted this...I just bought a couple of those fans, and also have a prometheus mounted under my effector. Printing them out first thing in the morning!
