H-1 Mod X-axis motor idler

Post by bvandiepenbos »

This simple addition really helped. Belt tension is not so finicky...seemed to be either to tight, then axis did not move easily OR to loose and the belt would jump teeth of pulley.
Also added another idler on right side in a slot to fine adjust the belt tension.
Plus bearings in place of stock plastic bushings is worthwhile.

Looks good. I had a similar idea, I replaced the plastic parts with roller bearings and idler sleeves (http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=471) and drilled out a channel for one idlers to move back and forth to apply tension. I think the next step is to figure out how I can make tension spring controlled. The change make it a whole lot easier to adjust the tension on the X axis belt.

Hello Mike,
you may not need to bother with spring idler if your belt wraps around motor pulley farther like mine with additional idler. Then use your slotted adjustment on right idler to fine tune the tension.
just a thought.

Mine sure is easy to adjust and forgiving now.

Would like to see what you come up with if you build a spring tensioned belt adjustment.

Now I am working on a way to adjust Y-axis belt tension.
But first need to re-build my leaking hot end AGAIN... this is the 3rd time! :x
